Oysterquartz queston............

Hello folks,

Just picked up an OQ, but it's loosing time (a lot actually), does it need a battery change? Or service? just noticed that the past 7 min or so the minute hand didn't advance.
As always your input is greatly appreciated.

Start with the battery and a new gasket.

Try put in a new battery....I used Maxell SR44W battery. Make sure you buy the silver oxide type since they're better and consistent than the alkaline type.

new battery should fix that , how old is the battery in there now any idea?

I don't know how old the battery is. It seems like I will need the contact cover also, it is broken from one side.

i think the OQ has a battery eol indicator that would not affect the time but only the ticking frequency... if its an older one with no service history, i'd get it a full service from a rsc only. the OQ is a quartz but still needs a good cleaning every 10 years or so and it's usually not something done since it can cost more than a rsc overhaul rate. if you got a good deal on it ($1500 - $2000), i'd get a full service if its a keeper.

No, the OQ does not feature EOL.

From the FAQ's on oysterquartz.net:

Does the Oysterquartz have an EOL (end of life) indicator for the battery?

While some modern quartz movements have EOL indicators for the battery (such as the second hand moving in two-second increments), the 5035 and 5055 do not. The most common "symptom" of a battery nearing its end of life in an Oysterquartz is erratic timekeeping. The typical accuracy for an OQ is +/-2 to 5 seconds per month. If you start getting significantly more drift than this, the battery is probably about to go.

So I finally talk to the seller, and he told me that the battery was changed 2 months ago. I am thinking one of the driving wheels could be damaged. I am taking it to RCS this week.
One more thing if someone has a 5 mil serial number 17000 will you please pos t some pictures of the clasp flaps?

My OQ's serial number is in the 5.7 million range. Here are some pics of it including the clasp flaps. The production code on the clasp is "GC".
