ADMIN note: Changed thread title. Fake Daytona - Advice for members.

[U]ADMIN NOTE: I have moved this thread into Watchout. The original follows below. The Daytona pictured is clearly a fake.

Thanks to the members below who drew our attention to it

The OP was asked to offer an explanation but was not prepared to do so.

He has been banned.

There was a For Sale listing that he posted which has also been removed.

I have moved this to 'watchout' so members can be made aware.

Dalip.

Hello fellow members here is my collection. Please help me decide on what I'm missing. I am leaning toward something like a black Milgauss or a Day Date. I could go a totally different direction and go for a Deep Sea or a Submariner but I feel the Explorer II is my sport watch. I feel I need something simple or dressy like the Milgauss or Day Date. I know the Hamilton may fit that criteria but I'm talking about a Rolex version of course. HELP!!!!!

It's a 2008. Trust me it's the lighting. I took all those pics last night around 11 pm using only a table lamp because I didn't want to wake up my wifeAll of the pics are low quality. Couldn't sleep so I decided to do a quick post because I've got the itch again. Although its only been 3 weeks since my last purchase of the 216570

Day Date or Dayjust... maybe try getting an alligator band or customizing it somehow? I've been looking into playing with my dials, hands, and bezels... do whatever you want.

Sir, your white gold Daytona does not look right. Sure, the lighting could be bad, but it should still have the serial number etched on the rehaut (at 6 o'clock position) as far as I'm concerned.

Just my $0,02.

Just my $0,02.

OP - The rehaut from this pic (borrowed from the net and Mosco I believe) demonstrates the
points made well..(different dial variant):

The OP challenged our advice and their subsequent behavior strongly suggested that they were fully aware and were posting the watch despite this.

That's why we have taken the action we have and it was to protect Trf and it's members.

Considering this post was placed in a Rolex discussion area this pointed to intent.

There was also a for sale listing from the OP since removed.

This has been posted for Trf members benefit.

To demonstrate what to look for in a fake and to also be aware when purchasing/trading watches that the pictures are checked carefully.

We always state to "buy the seller" but that message isn't always clear enough.

People still go by the price of the piece as the main priority.

It's important to understand this thread in the light it's been posted.

Thanks Dalip for the explanation and you're exactly right. From what it looked like they were trying to put the picture with other watches to make it appear genuine thinking no one would suspect it...or even take the time to look that closely. It's definitely the right thing to do to get them out of here

question - reference works

Sorry to jump in and side-track a bit from the main concern in this particular thread but:

This thread made me want to look for more conclusive and authoritive reliable reference works (books) about the models under discussion.

I have posted some questions I had about reference works to which I found links here on TRF banners. The books look and sound great but their prices are imo very high and I am unable to judge if the price is justified compared to the usefulness of the information.

I was wondering if you guys could give any tips on "must have" reference works? (and whether or not you would recommend those books I wrote about as "authoritive")

Specific interest from my side: Daytona, GMT II and Patek nautilus/Aquanaut.
I have posted the links to the books I was looking at in Rolex general and Patek discussion forums but any recommended reference "literature" recommendations are greatly appreciated

I did not bother repeating the links here as I felt that wasnt the point of this thread.

Thanks and greetings,
Dimitry
