First Rolex, First Spottings, First Scratch
I bought my first Rolex two weeks ago - a new SubC. I had one friend in the past that had an old sub, but other than that I knew nothing of Rolexes. I saw my uncle sporting a Rolex at our fourth of July get-together and thought I'd shop for one since I just finished grad school.
Other than happening to see "Rolex" on my uncle's watch, I never would have known anything about spotting a Rolex. Now that I shopped around before and after purchasing my Sub, I have much better awareness - and appreciation. I met a recruiter this week as I've been interviewing trying to nail down employment. The guy had an older Sub on, so I just thought it was cool to have my watch for less than ten days and already meet someone with the same one as me. I never would have known nor cared before what kind of watch the guy had on. We held them side by side for a second and then carried on. I didn't really get people saying that they don't draw much attention to their watches when i first got on the forum, but I think i do now. I bragged to my close family about my watch because I am proud, but to other friends I just don't feel the need to draw attention to it. I know what kind of watch I have on, and it's not just a watch to me - it's a symbol of all my accomplishments in life and all the accomplishments to come. It's a daily reminder of what I'm capable of. And yeah, I got a good scratch in it the first freakin week. Can't stop looking at the scratch. I'm sure I'll get over it soon. I'll try to get a pic up. We need more iPad compatibility! |
