How legit is this?

This is my birth year Oyster Perpetual on ebay. Seller says it was 'inspected but not serviced' by a Rolex technician, says it's keeping time. The seller has some horrible write-ups on this board. Any thoughts?

Based on the fact you mention "horrible write-ups"...I'd probably be extremely cautious on this one.

LOL, not that I would buy it, but I learn a lot when people point out flaws, fakes, etc. But no, I would not buy from this seller. The year caught my eye, his reputation speaks volumes. But had I not looked him up here, I would not know this might be questionable. I'm trying to learn what to look for, and how you more experienced members evaluate things.

Henry:

Interpretation of service seems to vary. I never looked up specific feedback on eBay before but I think 99.8% positive is supposed to be within the realm of good.

On the big question, the Rolex, I'm too much a novice to know about its condition and its price. I will check back to read what the sages pronounce.

Good luck.

Curious, I have never seen the iii 61 marking that supposedly (according to the seller) denotes the quarter and year of manufacture. Is that correct?

It is expected to find the quarter and year (and reference number) stamped on the the inside caseback of older vintage models.

Thanks! Yet another piece to the puzzle.

I agree.

The guy has over 5,000 sales, many of them decent watches, and he has a 14-day return policy so I don't think he is a crook.

Here are the three threads I found on him here, hence the questioning:

The watch you are looking at looks ok. He seems to seller resprayed dials on Tudors those are the complaints I see, this watch is a Rolex and has correct arrow head markers and dauphine hands

It's a stunning looking watch and a great price. Redial though? Looks to be a paint splotch between the 9 area and the hands shaft.

I would agree that this is a redial. The "SUPERLATIVE CHRONOMETER OFFICIALLY CERTIFIED" font does not look like the typical Rolex font.

It does have pointed "A"s rather than the flat-tops in use today; does anyone know which is correct for this era?
