white gold?

I've read somewhere that the 3,6 and 9 on the explorer 1 214270 is white gold. Is it true?

Yes, this is true. To my knowledge the whole current line up all have gold dial markers.

This may not be true for the SS Daytona. I should know since I have one, but I do not....

Why would it not be true for the Daytona?

I suppose it would be, I just didn't know for a fact. The hands and markers of the new Explorer II don't appear to be gold, so I suppose it made me wonder about the SS (non TT) Daytona since I had never particularly looked into it.

The Explorer II hands are white gold on both white and black dial. They paint them black on white dial of course.

I've heard all markers and hands were WG for their corrosion resistance?

This is what I heard too. The old tritium could sometimes corrode dials, and Rolex started embedding it in WG. They continue this practice today with luminova. All Rolex hands and indicies are WG unless they are on a RG or YG watch, at which point the metal is swapped for one that matches. The only exception that I am aware of is on the polar expy42, which has black hands and indicies. The indicies on my white milgauss also appear painted like the expy42. For all I know it is WG underneath. The hands and indicies on my SS Daytona are definitely WG.

Yup... the change from use of steel hands and markers to solid gold ones happened around 1985...

BTW.: in the price list for the Rolex catalogue it says "Applied Gold dial figures", so there you have it in writing.
