The incredible Walled City of Kowloon

Got 5 minutes to kill ? Have a look a the link,it's really an amazing story to read about.
A dear friend of mine just got me as a present the very rare 1993 book about Walled City, she knew I've always been fascintated about this incredible place and I know she spent a little fortune on it.

Again have a look,it's really amazing. And absolutely terrifying and alienating ....

This is somewhat terrifying (yet fascinating) indeed! I have a book at home about organized crime and I remember seeing a picture of this very city in it. Needless to say I would never be able there...you almost feel squeezed while looking at those pictures.

Thank you for sharing Andy!

Great read, many thanks.

Doesn't India (Bombay) have something similar?

Interesting history too ... I just read a bit about it and it was demolished between 1993 and 1994. Apparently, crime rate was low, but sanitary conditions and quality of life in general were way behind the rest of Hong Kong.

Looks like one of the scenes from Bloodsport was shot there.

Kowloon is among the hottest, most humid locations I have ever visited. I cannot imagine how hot, humid and smelly that complex would be, especially in the lower, center levels.

Informative indeed. Article and pictures reflect difficult times and adaptable nature of humans. Many cities exist still in this world. I hope some one will do a story on the slums of Mumbai.

Great post! I never would have seen this most likely. How bizzare some places can be. Thanks for posting this. Boy, Texas seems just a little bit better right now.

Ironically the city from Blade Runner was a massively depopulated ghost town.
