Flash Drive: Are They Safe?
I got a free flash drive as part of the bags of swag they gave away at the Inside Basel/Geneva event.
Question: Do you guys worry that flash drives in general may come from the factory with viruses or other harmful stuff on them? Especially if they are Made in China? |

No. They are safe to use in my opinion - if you are the first time user

Being from China has no bearing. If you want to be cautious with a new drive, disable AUTOPLAY prior to insertion and format once inserted.

If they are a name brand, and come sealed in it's packet, then no, no worries at all. Even from a no name brand, as long as it's sealed, you should be fine (providing you have an anti virus program that scans drives as soon as they are inserted. And yes, turn off auto-play.

Have to agree just cannot see why today there is a thought of stigma of ant goods from China .China today produce some excellent electrical product and many well known brands are made there.Perhaps because the labour is cheaper than the western world but IMHO its because they do quality work.Like all countries today most make excellent products and some not so excellent products.

It was made in China, really?
Flip over any electronic device in your home or office and I bet the majority of those will have a 'Made in China' stamp somewhere.....
