DSSD variations

Was recently told by a TRF watch seller that the DSSD comes with different dials (a glossy version and a matte version.) The matte dial being the more desirable of the two.

Any truth to this?

I know there are slight differences in font between the mk. 1, 2, and 3 but never before heard that there can be a difference in the actual color of the dial.

Still skeptical myself.

Not true, there is only a matte dial on the DSSD, however there are (at least) 3 different versions of text variations, i.e. ever so slight changes to fonts being used, spacing between letters etc. It really has no impact on the price or popularity of the piece - regardless of what anyone tries to tell you - but there might be some personal preferences among certain WIS.

Thanks, this is what I always thought to be the case.

Matte dial meaning different than that of the Sub C dial, which i presume is the glossy dial. Correct?

Anyone have a side by side of the Sub C dial and the DSSD dial?

No, he was actually very fair and giving me an excellent deal.

He was just telling me about the two different DSSD's he had in stock. (which I guess weren't so different after all.)

They can appear to be the same but the DSSD actually has a matte dial (a features it shares with the 39mm Explorer 214270) while the rest of the modern divers 116610LN, 114060 as well as GMTs have glossy dials

The DSSD dial is neither matte nor glossy but something inbetween... let's say it's semi-matte.

Due to the glare from the domed, non AR coated crystal, sometimes the dial can look "glossy". In certain lighting and at certain angles, the dial has a brownish hue to it as well.

Thnx for the info & pic. Much appreciated. Dial pictured above is definitely matte and not the same as the glossy Sub C dial.
