Best Skiing watch?

Don't really want to ski in my good watches and my Suunto Core ABC watch I never use the Altimeter or Compass and I feel the need to update.... as I just need a TIME + Baro reading really.

but the killer for me is.... best possible readability ( akin to looking at a Panerai dial - clean ) add potential to wear over a ski jacket ( something like my GasGasBones nylon nato ), plus I don't want to spend a heap on a twice a year watch.

Any good suggestions?

No pics of me skiing but I skied on this trip to the arctic and my 14060m never left my wrist.

If I wanted an excuse to buy a cheaper skiing watch I'd go Traser or Luminox. I know a lot of people love them but I just can't warm to G-shock.

Amen to that! Maybe on an orange NATO/Zulu.

I remember a glorious pic Cru Jones took of his 40mm ExpII with Mont Blanc in the background. Über-cool.

yeap got the Core - but I got the all black version - don't find it great to read, and the Altimax / Vector might be an option but not used one.

Rolex as far as I'm aware don't have the baro function - and yeap they look great and yeap they are insured and yeap they are comfortable and yeap I'd be wearing one in the bar for apres-ski but backcountry and messing around with friends....er nope.....having already dented a GMT and snapped the winding crown I taught myself the hard way

EXP II for laps on the chair on Piste, but the SUUNTO is even more appropriate off Piste.

My Vector that I have used since 1997. She's a little beat up, but has never failed me in the Backcountry.

My CORE that I just added about 5 years ago.

OP, SUUNTO is a great tool watch. I have a TISSOT touch, because of the slimmer profile and functions, but I hate it. You have to take your gloves off to use any of the "touch" functions -- makes no sense!

hey woody, so the mistake I made was the black Core, how's the white face to read in bright light condition, maybe I just need to change my existing Suunto.... the Altimax is like the Vector but without Compass.

What do you mean ski watch? You can ski with any watch!

If I'm in unchartered territory I bring my Suunto with altimeter, baro and temp. Otherwise, any Rolex would do.

Funny...I made the same mistake with the black Core too.

I wanted to be different because I had the Vector in white. I ended up giving my black Core to my business partners son, and picked up a white Core.

For me, the white background on the SUUNTOs is so much easier to read in bright light -- one of the reasons I went with a Polar Explorer. I spend quite a bit of time on snow and at altitude.

I use my plastic orange armitron an an orange and blue nato for skiing. since it only costs $35.00 if it breaks I can just go buy another one. It's a watch that i can beat the crap out of and not worry about hurting.

I've crashed enough skiing to never wear a good watch while doing so. If the G-Shock breaks, replace it. Otherwise, barometer, altimeter, thermometer, alarm, stopwatch and time piece.
