Resale value of SS Daytona

The hype of the SS Daytona has not been as it was several years back. I have had three since 2003, two I had worn and sold for more than the new retail price at that time and made some money along the way.

Now I have had my third since 2007, unworn with all the protective plastic intact. Do you think I can sell it for more than the new retail price £7960, which in my opinion is ridiculous price for a watch that less than 10 years ago was £3760? Does it matter if the watch is worn to the resale value?

I'll offer you £3760 if you think thats fair ;o)

dealers are asking around the 7960 figure and higher might I add, but that's not necessarily what they are achieving and I know you can get some examples down around the £6k figure but they won't have sticker on.

So, somewhere between the £6 and £7k mark private might be right, but try to trade that beauty in and I bet you are shocked at what the dealers will give you.

Sorry well thats one of the main reasons some could not get hold of a Daytona as many were buying them hoping to make money.Today many just think of Rolex watches as little more than $$$$£££ instead or the real reason for buying and owning a Rolex watch because you want to wear and own that particular watch..

I'll top that offer

Seems like £6k would get it sold depends how quickly you want to move it on

I was in your neck of the woods a couple of weeks ago and in the Ginnel there is a shop selling a 2012 Black faced 116520 for £8995, ( a £1000 over list ) so where do you get £6 and £7k.

Many thanks guys

I am not trying to sell the watch, it would be handed down. The price for SS Daytona in the grey market has not kept pace with the retail price. Perhaps the asking price for new is not worth the value.
The reason I don't wear it is because I have worn two previous ones and there is no point taking the plastic off to wear on occasions. I love my IWC chrono more.

yeah that sounds like..... ( no I wont advertise for them )... over priced huh I'd take a quick peek at a few recent threads on here - people picking up these with Stickers from uk ad's for just over £6k. Or of course a quick trip to Heathrow T5 will get you a nice new one for not alot more

Too much hype around $£€¥. Why can't we just enjoy a great watch?

this horse has been beaten many a time over. the SS daytona is simply not a rare piece or hard to get for that matter. Under no circumstance should an AD be charging more than MSRP. in fact they should also be giving a discount. The daytona simply isnt what some make it out to be any longer in 2012-13. nice watch but old hat.

You should have purchased a few ounces of gold instead of a watch. It is true....

That's exactly it, the other thing is if its priced close to a V series or newer, and someone has the choice between the new generation clasp on a V or an older '07 with the previous clasp they'll tend to go for the newer one and pay the difference.

Exactly. It's absolute fantasy to think that you'll see one in T5. Even the store will tell you they simply do not get them on there as they will not sell at discounted price.

However, I do know for a fact that they can be had from time to time at Schipol, Amsterdam airport. They sell for more than UK list price though!

There are countries where you can get them very easy for list price though. My local AD gets 1 or 2 every few weeks.

seller is dreaming at £6595

it would be a Y or F with the 78490 clasp which at the time retailed for about half of the £6595 asking price

i'd pay no more than £5.5 for it - especially as it's been serviced and most probably polished, and the polishing would mean the case and bracelet have an uneven surface where nicks and dents have been polished out

plenty of Daytonas at Changi Airport but even after discount they're more expensive than grey prices

You're right it a F serial ideally I would like something newer and with the newer clasp this one had the older style.
I was thinking if offering £6k for it but don't know if that may seem a bit harsh unless newer ones are around for £6k

Good job that I am not selling. There is no way I am to sell for £6k when the watch is brand new, the current retail is pushing £8k.

I must admit I have never seen a new one for £6k

Yours isn't new anymore either so why not wear it

If not I'll take it off you for £6k then
