Explorer II

Hi Guys,

I went to the local Rolex AD and I was shocked (shocked i tell you) to see how large the new Explorer IIs are. I have small wrists and can't really pull off wearing one of them. It's the same with the new GMTs as well.

I am in the market for a new watch and was planning on buying one through Sediqqi here in Dubai but the new models are HUGE...or is it just me?

The GMT and Sub are still 40 mm

Perhaps you need a little time to get used to the different look? (although the GMT II C was launched back in 2007)

The bracelets and clasps now feel more substantial and have a different feel on the wrist compared to the old models

The Exp II is now 42 mm, but I find it sits flat on the wrist and the case is quite curved in profile, making it comfortable for me at least

OT, but I'm glad that there are still folks who think wearing something over 42mm is too big. I've seen numerous posts from people on other fora that they wouldnt wear anything under 44mm.

I still think that the sweet spot is 40-42mm. Of course this is just my opinion :)

my suggestion is eat more spinach - aka Popeye - it did his wrist the world of good ;o)

if that doesn't work, yeah you can always find the Previous Explorer 2 - 16570 @ 40mm might suit you better....smaller than that, try a DJ ( BUT DONT TRY DJII cos they are 41mm )

I'm going to have to agree with you about the new 42mm ExpII. I'm 6'6" 245 lbs and it's too big for me.

Agree. I tried on the new model and thought it looked too big but am quite pleased with my new (to me) 16570.

That watch was made for you. It's literally perfect for your wrist.

The new Explorer 42mm may appear a bit big at the outset - I thought this myself just before I picked one up - it felt bigger than my 1680 sub (and is) but it is a more modern and more robustly constructed watch that you could take more or less anywhere without too much worry of damage etc - its design and construction clearly depict that - anyway dont let any initial impression put you off - definitely think you should take another look!
