Vintage pepsi gmt

Okay. Long story short. Met a guy today that I do some financial business with and noticed his watch. He said he has had watch since the mid eighties. Was given to him by his brother. Asked him about box, papers etc. He said that over the years he has lost everything. He showed interest in selling it. My question is what do my fellow Trf members think about pricing and authenticity. I have no clue when it comes to vintage. Here are some quick pics that I took today.

Looks ok to me, but to be sure I would need to see pictures of engraved markings between the lugs. Value in such "daily rocker" condition with unknown service history would be around 3000, provided its real.

Looks like a very nice watch. If you have the opportunity, check on the price. Take it to a watchmaker to check on the reference numbers (model and serial #s).

$3000, really?

Depending on service history $3,500 - $4,200.

Depends if it is a model 1675 or 16750. Either way, based on the photos, $4,000 on up.

By the way, when I see these $3,000 price quotes it puts a bit smile on my face from years gone past when they were that price. They haven't been at $3,000 for three or four years, except for maybe a bargain, beat-up one, but not a decent GMT.

But you think is authentic based on pictures right? If so I may go further with this one.

Is it just me - or does the cyclops magnification look weak? I know the Explorer mag is not the same as a Sub.

They do not counterfeit 16750's. The watch is genuine along with the dial. Late 1970's for model 1675 or early 1980's if it is a 16750.

By the way, genuine 2 1/2 magnification crystals are not expensive at all and can be installed by any competent watchmaker.

The watch depicted needs some band links, proper finish to the case/band and probably a service too. It is hard to give a definite value for the watch based on minimal information and absent the model number.

The around 3000 quote takes into consideration the probably non-serviced state of the watch, as we know a full service which is needed for this one adds up another 1200 at Rolex Geneva. By the way, the quote was in Swiss Franks. We get freshly serviced gmt's here in Switzerland offered between 4500 and 7000 Swiss Franks.
