I have a great FIL!

Tam's dad sent her a mail the other night say he had bought me a new toy to play with when we get to the UK
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MEWA%3AIT&rd=1

He collects these like we collect watches!

Funny thing is, him and I have never even met! We just have so much in common and a surprising age difference of only 11 years (yes I robbed the craddle)

Thats a excellent SLR 35mm camera Bruce,I had a cannon T90 must say
that was the best 35mm I ever had.My biggest mistake was to P/Ex it
when the first Canon 35mm auto focus SLR came out. That T90 with a
28mm-70mm zoom and a Tamron 90mm portrait lens,and a Tamron 70mm210mm zoom was a great combination.Always liked canon above
but underwater Nikon.

Its not so much the camera bodies but myself used a G4,the lens have just got the edge, over the others IMO, and they have much larger range.

Yeah the Nikor lenses are great. The fixed lens on my Coolpix 4500 is just amazing! I would guess that the pro series lenses for both Nikon and Canon are of similar quality. The difference in quality between the cheaper Canon lenses I was using and my new L series is just amazing. I had no idea there would be such a difference. Now if I can just learn to use my equipment............

I just love your underwater pics. Do you still dive regularly?

Actually I've read (and heard from news photogs) that while Nikor lens' tend to be sharper when you don't need a fast focus, Canon lens' have the edge over Nikon in terms of shooting action (like sports) because their autofocus motors are much quicker than Nikon.

I have noticed that most of the sports photogs I see articles on, or I see in pics, are shooting Canon. I put that down to Canon having the edge in dslrs right now, but I have read that the autofocus is faster as well.

Yeah, but when I say 'way faster' we're talking like nano-seconds. Not much to you and I, but when you're shooting for the cover of SI, that can be the difference between hero and zero.

I think Canon and Nikon are so evenly matched that you can't go wrong with either. When I was a journalist, Nikon was 'it' so I bought Nikon. I think if I were to go DLSR now (and didn't have a number of Nikor lenses) i'd go Canon.

I agree. My dream is to shoot the cover of SI, but not the sports issue

That's the dream for most North American men. Sadly, all they can aspire to is to shoot on the cover of SI.

Okay, that was bad.

Very cool Bruce, when the two of you are being spoonfed through a straw together by Tam, you will have lots to chat about.

Really cool gift BTW!!

Not anymore Bruce had to give it up 2002 health reasons.Cannot
now get my licence renewed for open water. But still help out on the
teaching side with two local clubs in pool.Getting the novices ready for
open-water certification.Getting back to the lens side, in the auto focus
not much between Canon of Nikon perhaps Canon slightly faster. But in
the old manual focus, think Nikon are just a bit sharper. But saying that
IMO the Tamron 90mm is one of the sharpest lens for the money you
could buy at that time.
