FS: Rolex Patent 1 "Dustproof" silver Prototype from 1915
Rolex "Dustproof" Military Prototype with perforated metalic grill decorated
with tears and clover leafs. Patent 1, serial number 655 700 Gun metal sterling silver, this is the first "dustproof" prototype made by the newly established Rolex watch company (Nov. 15th 1915) On display in their Rolex Sales Office, London's Hatton Gardens area, either at No. 83 Hatton Gardens or the even newer offices 500 yards away at 44 Holborn Viaduct. The case clearly states Rolex - rather than the Dennison name case makers stamped by the london assay office for Swiss made, 1915, silver.925. A Rare find as most decorated protective grills were thrown away after the war. Both the bezel (Front) and back have milling on the edges like a coin edge, this milling enabled closing the case top or bottom with just your fingernail something that was impossible before. Porcelain dial with Cathedral hands, sunken subsidiary seconds dial at 6, mechanical manual wind with 15 Jewels, Wire lugs, enamel dial, silver case. Although pictures of my prototype exist in Italy, Dowling did not see it when he wrote the best of times Rolex wristwatches as I owned the watch for more than 35 years and did not know him then. I bought it at a flea market from an English Army major...if I remember correctly his name was Smithe. Price $300.000 with free shipping and insurance. I bet many of you are lining up to buy... Pay me via Bank wire transfer Anastasios [email protected] |
