daytona or breguet type xx
I'm about to take early/semi retirement. I won't need another dressy watch but had planned to pick up a tt Daytona Zenith as my grail. However, I've got too many dress/office watches:
gold DJ tt TOG ML jour et nuit ML moonphase GP ss 7000 chrono GP tt 7050 chrono On the sporty side, I've got a 14060, Speedy, Enicar Sherpa, and an older GP chrono. My question is, should I consider getting a Breguet Type XX, instead of the Daytona? I'm always a Rolex-first guy and have been for 40 years, but the brushed finish on the Type XX and the nice history make it fair competition to the Daytona. I need a watch that can go hiking, take a swim, as well as, look sharp. Anyone have any informed opinions? |

I looked at Breguet last year before buying my Daytona. Between these two, take the Daytona no contest.
Now if you were looking at another Breguet like the Marine Automatic Big Date that would be another story. If the Breguet did not have the stupid rubber strap I would have bought this instead of my Daytona

Both certainly have history. It's a wash for me on looks if you don't have a reason to consider resale.

I have admired the Breguet for some time now and between a TT Daytona and a Type XX, I say Type XX. Good luck with your choice!

Both are nice.....how about 3rd option : trade-in one of your dress-watch & get both Breguet & Rolex?

I'd say go for the Daytona, but love the Breguet Type XX as well. Especially if you are looking for the SS version it is considerably cheaper than the Daytona.

I have never owned a Breguet but was looking at one at my local AD at one time. The sales person told me to stay with Rolex because the after sale warranty service of Breguet is quite bad. He had a client whose Breguet stopped working within the warranty period and it took forever to repair, and when it came back it came back with a bill saying whatever it was wrong it wasn't covered by their warranty. My sales person knows this client well and he said this guy owns many high end watches and it is not likely that he abused them. The AD ended up absorbing the bill.

As much as I love Breguet I'd go with the Daytona. Now if it was another model than the Type XX it would be much harder for me to decide but this one isn't quite my all-time favorite.

The main selling point for me on the Breguet Type XX is that it's an affordable entry into the brand at the 2nd hand price. But the brand name is the only real selling point for me. I'd go for a Daytona still.

Get the Daytona...you'll always be able to get the XX later on when you flip some of the dress watches.
