Icon20 Paypal question??

Edited

on an e-bay sale -

There is a potential buyer that wants to buy. The problem is that he wants me to "pull it off ebay" because the person he is buying it for will see the invoice. He wants it to be a surprise. He still will pay via paypal.

The question is does Paypal offer the same protection if I sell it to him "off of ebay" ?

This seems fishy?

any thoughts??

thanks

as long as their address is confirmed and they are a verified member you will be eligible for seller protection so yes you would be good.

The risk comes into play when you consider they can call up their credit card company and cancel the payment

Did he contact you via Ebay? If so how is his feedback?
I have done it numerous times, actually prefer it, saves you the ebay fees. Ship to a confirmed address only insured with direct adult signature required and you will have the exact same protection as with ebay.

One thing I found out in a bad way is that on ebay a buyer's feedback doesn't really count for much. A person can have heaps of positive feedback for normal priced item and use that to do a scam on a pricey item such as a watch and do no damage to their feedback as sellers cannot submit negative feedback on the buyer while a buyer can submit a negative feedback on the seller even if the buyer scammed the seller.

While it is tempting (because you save eBay Final Value fee), it is sketchy at best.

If you still want to sell it to him, tell him you will arrange a Private Listing - then no chance of recipient "seeing" details. See: http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/private.html

All you need to do is end the existing listing and create a new one from scratch.
