Cyclops removal on a late Sports model Rolex Sub date /GMTll /EXP ll ..good idea ..bad idea ..how much does it effect resale price and desirability ?All opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Why even think of doing it..I say leave it alone as it is part of the watch that makes it what it is.

Some people (myself included) just do not prefer the look of the cyclops.

I say go for it! Many will say its iconic and a symbol of Rolex - blah blah blah - but its YOUR watch. Do to it as you please...!

My sub is engraved...some will say even that is sacrilege.

A guy on here called Jolu posted a video of him removing the cyclops of his Exp II with the aid of a knife, a hammer and a bottle of aquavit!

Some people prefer it...but I am at the opposite end of the spectrum on this one. Just like some go ahead and brush the polished center links...it's your watch so enjoy it how you like.

The results of removing the cyclops lens from a GMT2C, as previously posted on TRF. I don't know when Rolex began applying the anti-reflective coating on the GMT models, but thought I'd post this as a reminder. YMMV.....

Yes, good post. That does not look good at all with it removed.

Well if Steve is doing it, then I should as well. HAHA Just don't see the need to remove it, looks funny, but it is his watch.

I would rather leave it the way it comes from Rolex. It is your watch though, do what makes you happy.

I like the Cyclops. I'm just wondering if removing one effects value and resale?

Interesting photo. I'm wondering if the ar coating left behind (I'm assuming that's what we're seeing anyway) could be fairly easily removed as well. I know a lot of Omega Planet Ocean and Breitling owners have successfully nixed the outer ar coating from their crystals.

Let me know if you remove the cyclops and send it to me. After adding one to my THC I've been bombarded with inquiries about where to get one to add to theirs.

I don't like the cyclops, but that's why I ended up with the 114060. I think it will however affect resale, and desirability, since any non factory-spec modification decreases the pool of potential buyers you'll have.

It is ultimately your choice, but to me the Cyclops is what makes the Rolex unique. It's kinda like the design team stood around, looking at the finished product and said, "Well, it looks like were done!" Someone walking by said, "Why is the date so small, make it bigger? Interesting though, do you all think Rolex added the Cyclops "targeting" the older population (kinda like when bi-focals where the only option you had when you needed reading glasses)? This has likely been answered before, but please someone clue me in.

Obviously it's your watch to do what you like, but I would not recommend it.

During a brief time of madness I considered removing mine using that you tube video. I called my AD and asked that question about the warranty and was told by her that it would unquestionably void the warranty as well as void if I had the caseback engraved somewhere as Rolex would not do it.

We can't discuss fake Rolex watches here, PVD ones are frowned upon......cyclop-less Rolex watches is sacrilege!
Mods please lock this thread, doing away w/ the cyclops, bah humbug, this should be a bannable act.

It will come off - eventually, but not easily.

AR coating is not that hard to remove, but as it's on the inside you need to be quite handy. Good luck to the OP! :)

I think in an old thread someone showed pictures of how the cyclops fell off when he dropped his watch on the floor - so you could try dropping your watch onto a concrete floor repeatedly to remove your cyclops. ( Just kidding - please do not do this ).

A better idea might be to replace the crystal, rather than trying to remove the cyclops.

An even better idea would be to leave this iconic design alone, and buy a ( no date ) Submariner, or a Seadweller if you really don't like the cyclops.

Since you can replace the crystal for a few hundred I would say it doesn't effect the price anymore than a new crystal would cost.
