Newb requesting info from the experts
Hello everyone! Glad to find this forum; I'd like to pose some questions to the knowledgable readers in hopes of improving my Rolex IQ.
I'm looking to acquire my first Rolex after spending many years collecting Seiko divers. I've zeroed in on the 16610 or the 14060 Subs as my first choice. Really like the black dial / stainless look. Are there any differences between the 14060 and the 14060M? What is the difference between a 'two line' 14060 and a 'four line' 14060? (the printed lines below the center of the dial face). My preference in the 14060 series would be a later issue (2006-2008 or thereabouts). I'd like to know what to look for when examining these watches to ensure that I don't end up with a fake. My preference would be for a mint unworn piece with all original paperwork, case, etc. Thanks in advance for any / all replies! |

Welcome! I'm still a newb myself, however, just want to say Welcome, and I started with Seiko divers as well, then settled on the Sub Ceramic model. A true pro will soon chime in and provide you with a wealth of information, or at least point you in the right direction.

As far I am aware the only difference between a 2 line and a 4 line is the writing on the dial. Both are COSC certified, except the latter states it on the dial while the former doesn't. EDIT: It seems I may not be correct with this statement so please do listen to our more informed members |

Welcome!
14060M is a slightly modified movement. If you use the advanced search, you can find a ton of details in similar threads. The two line Sub is not COSC certified, so it cannot say so on the dial...but you won't know the difference. This forum is not for discussion of fakes. If you want a real watch, make sure you trust the seller. There are plenty of tutorials on line and/or the James Dowling book on Rolex with tips re: fake detection. http://www.amazon.com/Rolex-Wristwat.../dp/0764300113 Best of luck! |

Welcome to TRF!
As others have said, "buy the seller" first. And I'd add that there are many trusted sellers here on TRF who have all 3 types of Subs you're considering. You can browse through the Classified For Sale - Watches listings and then check for feedback on the seller in the Buyers/Sellers Who's Who section. Use the search features in each section to narrow down your results and make browsing easier.

I suggest looking hard at the 16610. A little more watch with date function and a nicer bracelet. Some however, prefer the clean look of the Classic Sub and no date window to clutter the dial. Both great pieces and you can't go wrong with either.
