Date Just 2, scratches on the fluted bezel.
Hey guys!
First of all, I wanna say I am very happy to be a part of these forums. I recently but my first rolex, just around two weeks ago. A datejust 2 with a black dial and a white gold fluted bezel. For the past couple of days, I've been noticing that the bezel gets dirty really quickly, and it bothers me so much. I do my best to clean it with the microfiber cloth, but it doesn't really do much, so I have to really press along the lines with the cloth. When you look real close though under certain light conditions, you can notice there are quite a bit of scratches all around. Is that normal at such an early period of time? And is it normal for the fluted bezel to get dirty that easily? I posted a few pics to give you guys a better idea. I am an extremely picky person. Thank you very much. |

Welcome!
Don't worry about the scratches....they will happen. When its time to hit the spa, it will look like new. For now, enjoy the DJII. |

Hi,
I'd say that's fairly normal, yes. My Datejust very quickly picked up many little hairline scratches on the fluted bezel, and occasionally some that were quite noticeable. However, what Tools has said is very true - no-one else will notice this, and from a distance the last thing anyone looking at your Rolex is going to be thinking is "man, look at the scratches on that bezel!" |

Ever mark is a testament of your ownership. Even the stupid scratches on my watches that I could have avoided (in hindsight) bring a smile to my face now.
Wear that great piece and enjoy the ride! When I clean my watch on very rare occasions all I use is small amount of mild soap in warm water and a soft bristle toothbrush under running water. Once clean, I wrap it in a kitchen towel and press out all the loose water. After that I hit it with a micro-fiber cloth and put her back on the wrist. |

Stop using the cloth to wipe the bezel down. Gold is softer then steel and easy to scratch. Wash it once a week with soap, water and a soft toothbrush.

Wow another TRF member who actually took the stickers off his watch and is wearing it. You sir are a brave man. I would reccomend you buy this bezel protector though before the watch is ruined.

Lol now that's protection. I would hate to see what your use for more intimate moments. You're going to get scratches. It's ok, take a breathe. Remember the first one is the hardest, all the rest are easy.

The scratches on the bezel may bother you now, but in a year you will still love your new Rolex Datejust II as much as you today, and the scratches will not bother you.
This is personal experience although mine is a 36 mm DJ. |

I take mine in the shower each morning and and wash it with soap suds and rinse. Then when I get out and it has virtually dried off, rub with soft clean handkerchief. Always polishes lovely and stops dirt accumulating. If you try and clean with cloth and there is dirt on the watch, that's how scratches happen ( same as polishing a car). This always puts a smile on my face in the morning with a sparkling clean watch - and I don't subscribe to the belief that somehow showering with your Rolex is a problem.

When you clean and polish your gold bezel it is advisable first to wash it carefully with water and detergent without abrasive component. Otherwise invisible dust microparticles scratches the gold surface (and the steel one too). But bear in mind that gold is a very soft element. It can get scratches even from a cloth of the sleeve.

But isn't the microfiber cloth a good way to clean the gold? Because apparently it doesn't cause scratches?

Anyway, enjoy your watch be it scratched or not. Edit: Google, and you can find some tips to clean/polish gold.

That's the beauty of the fluted bezel....it doesn't show scratches as easily. And, I personally suggest you use a soft toothbrush and the cleaning agent of your choice (I swear by Veraet) to clean the bezel as well as the entire watch. As others have said, you WILL get scratches but only you will see the majority of them. And, every few years when you have your watch serviced it will come back like new again.

Hello Guys, I'm just new to this forum as well & a very proud 1st time owner of my brand new Submariner 11613LN watch . Like illCoolz I was getting a little upset when I noticed small fine scratches showing up especially on my bracelet. After reading all the posts it calmes me & I understand that's the " nature of the beast" and goes with the territory for wearing such a great time piece!!
After all we bought them to wear & enjoy! |
