Hello! My first rolex
Hello! Nice to meet you!!!
My father gave me his Rolex. I need more info on this model. The Clocksmith told me the model number was 1601 but I wasn't able to find any info on it online. So I was hoping that you experts can enlighten me. When do you suppose it was made. And if possible what is the value? I am taking it to the Rolex center to have it serviced, since it's being a long time since it was worn... Thanks in advance! |

Congrats on a fine example of your first Rolex. The family history is something that can't be bought with money.

You are correct, it is a 1601 as you can tell with the Pie Pan dial. These I believe were produced around the 1970's. Prices are around 1500-2000. Looks great though and should look great after service!

Great looking watch. It is indeed a model number 1601 with the white gold bezel. A bit unusual with the oyster bracelet. To check the age of the watch, you need to remove the bracelet to see the serial number. It is located between the lugs at the 6 o'clock position. see this link: http://www.qualitytyme.net/pages/numbers.html A service sounds perfect, but be sure to avoid polish of the case and exchanging any exterior parts like dial or hands. This will affect the value of the watch, as vintage Rolex are most desirable when they are 100% original. The valuation of the watch, after the service, should easily be over 2000 USD. |

I would give anything to have a watch from my Dad. He's no longer here and all I can say is do whatever you can to hold on to it.
