MILLGAUSS 116400 (black dial) vs SUBMARINER 14060 (no date)
Hi everyone... Looking for some opinions/advice on a big decission to purchase my first Rolex. Narrowed it down to two choices as seen in the title. I'd rather not discuss my specific/personal views on both watches other than saying these are my two favs... No, I can't purchase both, but wish I could. I've noted that many of you are long time Rolex fans/collectors and, because of this, I value your experience and opinion. Thank you and I look forward to your comments.

Interesting that you won't share your thoughts. Those are the most important factors to this decision.
Both watches do the same thing...but you can dive deep with the Sub. Neither has a date. Neither will be worth super normal price gains - I.e. they are not... nor will they be... "collectors items" The PCLs on the Milgauss make it more flashy and dressy...even though the Millie is supposed to be a Scientist's watch. Suppose it goes well with a white lab coat! |

one watch (first watch) I'd go Sub C ND. and buy an extra black Zulu strap for some versatility

For a first and only Rolex right now, I would go with the sub. It can be dressed up or down and is a classic example of a Rolex.

Reason I didn't share my personal opinion on the Milgauss vs Sub is because I didn't want to influence your thoughts on these two watches. However, I will say I prefer simplicity and the watch doesn't have to scream Rolex. I realize the Sub is the classic and most popular of the Rolex collection but would appreciate some comments on future value and which Rolex would be the best investment. I'm hesitant to purchase a preowned Sub as I don't want to get burned... I trust my local AD but hard to say how long it would take for a vintage Sub to walk in the door...?

Doubtful. Vintage Sub would walk into an AD. You need a dealer who specializes. You have to establish relationships with non AD sellers
Well...it's helpful to know ones intentions re a new watch...but hopefully the opinions so far helped. |

Which Exp II - the new one or the old one?
Of your original two, I prefer the Milgauss

But on your original dual factor question, I'd say Sub 14060. I'd go pre-owned from a trusted seller here rather than pay dealer mark-up + taxes. Finally, if you have mid-$7K budget, then the new Expl.II is quite a choice!

Having owned multiple Rolex models over the years, I can tell you that for both versatility, and investment value you can't go wrong w/ the Sub. If I could only own one watch for he rest of my life...it would be a Sub. That said, I do not and have never owned a Milgaus.

Milgauss black is a great watch! I'd say, get that one now and in the future save up for a Sub NDc (IMO a better Submariner unless you go vintage). Good luck with your choice.

I've owned the Milgauss and it is a neat looking watch but it gets old and for me had a hard time settling into the rotation. With the polished bezel and center links I didn't wear it as a casual watch but as a dressy watch the Daytona or well worn black sub always looked better. I wound up flipping it and I have to say the secondary market is not as kind either on the Mille. Buy the ND sub and you can always find someone wanting to part with the Mille. If your working with an Ad I would personally go with the ceramic; or try to find the discontinued model NIB from a trusted seller.

Try them both on. MILGAUSS weight has a solid feel to it.

I would take a Milgauss, but if you're desperate for a Sub, go old and get a 5513
