My son wanted his first "nice" watch for Christmas.

Hey guys. I was extra excited this year when I got my sons Christmas list. He actually put on it that he wanted a nicer watch for Christmas. He turns 13 this month and up until now, never wore a watch. He has always been interested in my Rolex's and tried the cheap Walmart specials but they never staid on his wrist for more than a few days. He doesn't really like the "old man" look about Rolex in general.
My first watch was a citizen and we were in the mall a few months back and he saw the advertisement for the citizen watch that links to your iPhone by Bluetooth. It will give a small vibration and let you know if your phone gets a text, email, or other notification. It is a good looking watch with a black face and green accents. I think it will suit him well for a first. It looks like something the teenagers would wear.
I am just excited that in this day of kids using there phones to check the time and not wearing watches at all that he requested to get a watch this year.
Here is a quick snapshot of the watch in the box. I will be sure to take some pics of it on Christmas Day when he has it on his wrist.

I am sure he will. He will try on one of my subs every on e in a while and wear it around the house. I just think the SS band is just not his style right now. As long as he wants to wear a watch, I am sure his tastes will change. I am sure my obsession will eventually rub off on him.

That's a nice looking watch. I'd wear it :) My kids are both pretty young, but I hope someday I can get them a watch that they like. It would be nice to share this hobby with them.

A nice looking watch that will suit a young-teenager

I like your tactics...slowly converting the young one into a WIS.

I also leave my "watch times" laying around. He loves to grab those and thumb through them. He always picks out the most expensive watches in the magazine as his favorites.
This is all part of the master plan.
Leave books and mags laying around for him to see and let him wear my subs around the house when he asks to. Now giving him his first watch of his own.

My sons are 20 and 21.For years they thought I was nuts over watches. Now not so much. As they mature, they realize in the business world you can't be constantly pulling out your phone for the time. Summer internships in businesses (both are business majors in college) solidified that. College helps with timed presentations and not being allowed phones in class on exams in that in the real world, professionals wear watches. Cold and rainy on this Christmas eve morning in the NC mountains. Will be passing through your area on way to pawley's Island the day after Christmas. May 2013 bring you health and happiness x10.

Off subject, but Pawleys has to be one of the best places in the world. Spent a lot of time there in the summers growing up and I head that way as often as I can still.

Thanks everyone. Every year, I give my son and daughter a special gift just from me and my wife does the same thing for them. It is something that we pick out for them all by ourself. This is the thing I am giving him this year.
It has a double meaning to me because a citizen watch was the first watch I ever got as a kid. My parents gave it to me for my 15th birthday. I still have that watch and it is one of my prized possessions. It is cool to be giving him his first watch but it is even cooler to be giving the same brand I got when I was close to his age. Hopefully 25 years from now, this will be a watch he still has and will cherish as much as I do mine.
Merry Christmas everyone.

No kidding. If I could figure that out I would be a millionaire.
He is getting to the age where he is becoming his own person and I am sure he is beginning to think that dad isn't cool. My father and I had something we could relate to when I was 13 and I hope watches are the thing that my son and me have.
I appreciate all the nice comments guys. I will keep y'all informed on how everything goes. Here is a pic of me and my son. He is my best friend and I love him more than life itself.

Thanks man. Maybe one day your sons will gain an interest in watches. Do what I have done and just keep dropping small hints like leaving your watch times magazine around for them to look at. With you having such a passion for them, most of the time your sons will follow.
Merry Christmas
