Explorer II Crown Issues

I recently aquired a bnib 216570 from an AD and I absolutely love it. My only concern is the crown, when I pull it out to the time setting position and then back to hour setting, I find a little resistance pulling it back.

Also, it doesn't feel as solid as my previous sub with the triplock crown and there is room for it to wiggle. I have to actually push it while turning to screw it on. Is this normal? Anyone experience the same or shall I take it to RSC to examine? It's BNIB but was the last piece at the AD and was a G serial. So I assume it was on display since 2010 and people try it on.

What do you think? Normal or take it back and check it out?

Thanks,

The crown on my AP wiggles quite a lot, I can't remember how the crown was on my NEXP2....?

You should have to push it to screw it in. There is a spring inside the crown itself. Quite an elegantly designed piece of engineering.

When pushing the crown in half way then pull it back out it gives some resistance. I was next to the RSC and passed by, the technician tool a look and said it needs a fix and will do it on warranty.

It must feel nice to have a RSC so close to you. Sadly I don't. I was going to say mine does the EXACT same thing. Thought it was normal. I to also own a SubC and can tell a difference between the two. Again I thought it was due to twin lock versus trip lock. I guess you do actually learn something every day! Lol

The wiggle part is fine they said, it's just that it gets jammed moving back and forth from time setting mode to quick hour setting. The rest is fine and sure hope yours is also fine. :)

I notice similar resistance on my M serial 16570. I have not been concerned about it however because all else is well and the accuracy is amazing.

Thanks Mohammad. I just grabbed mine and started playing with it just for the heck of it. Mine just seems a little stiff going back and forth but definitely not getting jammed. Thanks for the look out. Hope you get yours back quick.

Mohammed, mine is a "G" and did the same thing. I was a little concerned initially but have since learned it's all normal. The spring mechanisim in the crown is a little stiff when new and allows the threads to engage slightly causing the "sticking" you feel when pulling it back out to the third position. Easy solution is to slightly turn the crown toward you as you pull it out. It should easily pull out at that point. After 3 months of multiple crown use and I no longer need to do this. The spring has lost it's initial stiffness and the threads no longer engage on their own.

If only I knew this before dropping it off, I hope no serious work will be done on it and I'm sure RSC are competent enough to put everything back together.

Wow your quick on the "get it in for service" draw. I'm sure they won't hurt it but I'd be real interested in what they say was wrong and what they did to correct it (specifically).

When mine were new, several had the same tendency. After using the function for a while, they are now just fine.

My 216570 has the same crown wiggle, I was also concerned as my 16610 & 116710 both have very solid crowns when unscrewed, but I guess they are more solid due to the trip-lock crowns.
