Would you....?
I have been thinking recently about trading my 5.2 mil 5513 for a 1680 with service dial and hands (the year doesn't really matter).
First do you think is possible for me to find an even swap (perhaps head only)?? Also, would you keep the 5513 which has original dial, hands and insert (I do however wear the watch on a hybrid 78360 link / 93150 clasp bracelet) or go ahead and jump to the 1680 with replacement parts?? I know they are similar, but different and I do not need the date. However, I feel that the 1680 has a larger appearence than the 5513. I also like the fact that the 1680 would have all modern parts with the vintage vibe. I wouldn't be able to have both nor could I really afford to invest more money and source an "all original" 1680 either, so that is where I came to the idea of the 1680 with replacement parts since it should be consderably less than and original example. I have attached a few pic's of my Sub for your consideration.... Thank you all for your insight in advance!

As someone that recently traded away a 5513 (oddly enough, a 5.2mil serial, just like yours) in favor of a 1680 Red, I can tell you that it doesn't, in my opinion, 'wear' any different in size.
Now, if you feel as though you'd like a date function, that's a different matter altogether. If I were you, I'd find some way to try on a 1680 side-by-side with your 5513 and just see which one of them speaks to you the most. I've seen 5513s in the condition that you have go for pretty similar (+/- $500) prices to 1680s in similar shape on a fairly regular basis so, if you do fall in love with the 1680, be patient and wait until you're able to get yourself a nice one. Making do with a 5513 until that point isn't exactly slumming it, y'know? |

Keep it, keep it, keep it.
If you don't require the date, I wouldn't even contemplate selling that lovely piece.

I was under the impression that a 1680 white cost more than a 5513 in similar original condition. Therefore, I figured that a way to do a clean swap for a 1680 (since I don't have funds to really add) was to get one with replacement parts. Also, I thought it was interesting to have a maxi lumi dial on a 1680 like having a modern vintage watch. I want to thank everyone for their kind words and making me appreciate the beauty that I already have on my wrist!

As if the above responses weren't sufficient, I will add my voice to the chorus. Your watch is awesome, don't trade it for an unoriginal watch. You'll be sorry later.

All kidding aside,...in the end you should do what ever makes you happy...If a 1680 is really what you want, then sell or trade the 5513...No question!!!

I would stick with the completely original watch.
After all that's the main reason to get vintage in the first place.
