First snow of the year...
Not much lying yet but it's still coming down.
I'm always embarrassed at how the UK shuts down whenever there's a flurry! The south of England has had a bit more than us, but still only 3 or 4 inches and the country has nearly ground to a halt if you believe the news?! I know we can't be alone in this but the Long-Haired General and I LOVE the snow and cold, so much healthier than rain and dreariness! Don't get me wrong, it would be nice if we could get a decent summer for once, but at this time of year this suits us fine.

It's pretty much the same in Holland. A few centimeters of snow and the country comes to a halt. I took this picture about 200 metres away from my apartment while driving to work at 5.45 am. It is about a 60 kilometers drive. Good that I left so early; one hour later about 40 kilometers of the 60 was one big traffic jam.

Well, it makes me feel better that is not just the UK that panics, forgets how to drive or dress appropriately and runs to the shops to stockpile bread and milk when more than four flakes settle!
Mon, it wasn't the pic of the bike that upset me... Just the suggestions as to what I should do with it! Tack så mycket! Good spot!

It's pretty much the same here in Albuquerque and in most of the South.
However, throughout the Midwest and the northern tier of states, life generally goes on as usual when it snows and it takes a blizzard to bring things to a halt.

We don't have much snow on the ground right now but it's 10 below zero. Takes a pretty good storm to shut us down.

Well I've been sick of 90 acres of mud like this for the last ten months solid so I'll take snow!
This used to be my front field!

I'm certainly up for the GTG if ever I get across the pond but you don't need to show me what real snow looks like...
I seek it out on holiday! This is me walking across a frozen river in the direction of the most northerly church in Sweden, about 300 miles north of the arctic circle!

We're still talking about our last snow/ice event two years ago. Atlanta and snow means no go.

Yes agree about the UK same every year with the snow, there was a RED warning for snow in my part of Wales Thursday.I went to my local Tesco supermarket at 12pm the shelves were bare no bread, milk, not even a bag of potatoes.Snow started about 3am Friday about 15cm on the ground all the schools closed, main roads passable with care. But where I live impossible to get car out to drive down to the main road.So its a two mile walk to any shop 3 mile walk to nearest supermarket. Now when I was school age I cannot remember the schools closing for a bit of snow. And in my schools days we had to walk to school and its was a little under 3 miles one way.Now the winter of 1947 and 1963 especially 1963 now that was very cold the big freeze, the schools had to close because all the water pipes froze solid so no toilets etc. And even the sea, lake rivers froze solid in many places that was a very hard winter in my part of Wales. The Snow started Boxing Day 1962 and snow and the terrible cold lasted well into March early April.Winter of 1963 with daily temps average -8c, on a few nights went down to -23c I remember it well, it was bloody cold even indoors huddled up to your coal fire if you had any coal .And if you ran out you had to go out to the coal yard and carry a sack home and even that was hard work as even the coal lumps froze together. It was so cold the water mains froze so you had to rely on where ever the water company had left a small water tanker for drinking water, again you had to go out and get your water and carry it home.We was quite lucky it was about half a mile trip but again water was heavy to carry home dont think I would like to see another winter like that one.And just had another 10 cm snow early hours of Tuesday morning snow for me now is best seen and left on Christmas cards as its no joke walking 3 miles to the shops when you are of a mature age.

In all seriousness I agree that snow can be quite a pain but I still prefer it to the very, very cold days (which is what we're having around here right now). It goes down to -25 - -30 Celsius sometimes, to the point where my car radio is lagging because of the cold (not that it's a big problem, I can stand not listening to music but keep in mind that this cold is also felt on my body...), right now my hands are all dry and I have bleeding scars on them because the cold just scratches and hurts my skin, it's the first time it happened to me in years (I guess Trois-Rivières is more humid than Montreal so when it's very cold it damages your skin more). Winter is not quite the nicest season for me...

We got some light fluffy stuff overnight. About a couple of inches. Looks dry and light. Going to try the new leaf blower on it!
