Icon5 Does the Cyclops give Rolex a, "Dated" look?

When I was at a competitor's AD, they told me they don't use the Magnification, or Cyclops because it gives the watch a, "Dated Look..."

I was puzzled because I never thought if the cyclops as something that could become dated. I mean, it helps us old guys see the date easier...

Sorry, what's the question.

Some will say yes, some will say no.

Not sure what your asking.

Sounds to me like a typical salesperson's effort to turn a competitor's feature into a disadvantage. To me, anything that looks "dated" is an advantage, so that wouldn't work for me. Furthermore, a salesperson who denigrates a competitor's product like this without justification, just turns me off.

Fully agree, when you want to sell something, always avoid to denigrate competition, it's unprofessional

I don't think a cyclops looks dated.

Rolex competitors don't use them because they can't get them to stick on.

As for us old guys - my wife hands me her tiny Tudor Princess Oysterdate to set now and then.
Even with the cyclops I have to take it into the sunlight to see the date and wearing two pair of reading glasses helps.

I think he was grasping at straws to undermine Rolex as the superior brand he knows it is and if thats his best shot he need to change jobs.

Other manufacturers wish they had a feature so unique and easily identifiable (and usable) as a cyclops.

by saying that, the "competitor's AD" wasn't saying the cyclops was dated, he was trying to say rolex itself looks dated.

obviously, he is wrong.

Let's just say that the continued use of the cyclops by Rolex gives a watch with a date complication a Rolex look, since almost all watch companies have either abandoned them or have never used them at all.

I personally like the cyclops, not because it helps me read the date, because my eyes are such that I need my glasses to read the date, whether there is a cyclops present or not. It just makes the date look more accentuated.

In the situation that you describe, as others have noted, I think it just sales mumbo jumbo.

The only thing "dated" here is the sales person.

X2

Makes them look more distinctive and attractive (in my eyes ) plus it makes seeing the date at a glance easier.

Cyclops is sooo rolex. On the other hand I think it does detract from the elegance/beauty of a watch, but then again rolexes are meant to be more function than form.

Last guy that said my eye glasses gave me a dated look, I punched him in the mouth. Thank God I was wearing my glasses to see where and who I was hitting.
