After being into pop/rock music since 1955, I am unable to construct a list of ten.

Top 10 songs? No way can I do that.
Movies, on the other hand, would be do-able.

I think you have to differentiate "songs" versus the "music" itself. Will give a shot. Endless topic Top of mind at the moment:

Music, in no particular order, and 10 won't cover it:
Gimme Shelter-Stones
We Don't Get Fooled Again-Who
Take Five-Dave Brubeck
Rhapsody in Blue-Gershwin
Sing Sing Sing--Benny Goodman
Can't You Hear Me Knockin'- Stones
Sympathy for the Devil-Stones
Jessica-Allman Brothers Band
Rebel Rebel-David Bowie
She Loves You-Beatles

Songs, and 10 will nowhere near cover it (in no particular order):
It Ain't Necessarily So--Gershwin, others.
Rain-The Beatles
New York, New York- Frank Sinatra version
Luck Be a Lady Tonight-Frank Sinatra version
Living in the Past-Jethro Tull
South Side of the Sky-Yes
Beyond Belief-Elvis Costello
Higher Ground-Stevie Wonder
Big Time-Peter Gabriel
Tie: Tempted/Hourglass-Squeeze

That's got to be one of the more wide-ranging entries. Tens of thousands to choose from!

these days Sanatarium is the fave of Metallica, well, maybe Battery. I listened to Dyers Eve the other night.

Edit:my top ten changes depending on mood.

And, yeah, I'm gettin' old 'cause a lot of songs/bands trigger memories.

Too hard to narrow down to ten, but ones that quickly come to my mind are:

Baba O'Riley - The Who
Sultans of Swing - Dire Straits
Tom Sawyer - Rush
Symphony 9, 4th movement - Beethoven
Rhapsody in Blue - Gershwin

Plus several from Led Zeppelin
