I would go with a vintage red sea dweller, and its usually pretty easy finding prestine older models, you just have to be willing to cough up serious $$$

theres a thread with good vintage watch dealers in the vintage rolex discussion section. it's stickied so it's easy to find.

You look and look.

Many ads for vintage will specify if the watch appears to have been polished or not.

You can also find dealers like "Jacek" on TRF and tell him what you are looking for.

A vintage GMT would be a great addition to your current lineup. Don't be surprised if vintage mania decides to take over, though.

A vintage GMT be nice. A red sub (or maybe another sub of that era that's somewhat cheaper) would be a great addition.

Not to hijack the OP's thread, but is it possible to find my birth year (78) sub through Jacek?

Well...you know production years cannot be determined with precision. Suppose you can fool yourself with serial no approximations or go by receipt if you find a watch with an original receipt.

You could ask...

You are correct. I guess if one can be proved originally purchased in 78 from an AD it would suffice. Thanks.

Looks like another one is added to my list

YES! You just need to check out a serial number chart, they are pretty easy to find. Whenever someone sells a vintage piece they will normally list the first few digits of the serial number so you can see how old it is. I used this to find a GMT that was born the same year I was.

Just be aware that the serial numbers are not an exact science and its not like they started a new serial number series every Jan 1st. Also the cases get stamped and then nobody knows how long before the watch gets assembled and how long it sat in a dealer's case before it was sold.

The vintage forum here is a great resource and as mentioned before Jacek has a great reputation and is always selling top notch pieces. I suggest you send him a PM and see if he can help you. Good luck!
