Rolex Daytona Disassembly

Hi everyone,

i am new here, and had a question about my Rolex. I wanted to know if there is anyway to remove the crystal on my Daytona. It is a 2005 all 18k yellow gold one. i want to remove it because one of the dial hands fell off when i got into a fight with some guy and smashed my watch on the ground. Nothing else broke, just scratches and whatnot, but the dial hand popped out! Is there any way i can fix this on my own, without having to pay an arm in the leg to get it repaired. I got this watch as a gift from a rich girlfriend i had, reason being i don't want to spend big money on repairs. Thank you. Pictures would be very helpful as well.

A valuable watch should only be attempted to be repaired by a properly qualified watchmaker.
The repair you talk about requires both special tools and skills to be properly performed.
It will be well worth your while to get this done properly, otherwise you might be courting more problems, such as waterproof issues.
It might seem like a small thing to you, but it is a specialist job to perform.

That reminds me someone about a month ago asked how to change a dial or hand....never heard from him again
Maybe you can do a search on the forum for your answer.

Post a pic first.
Then we'll tell you if you should fix it yourself.
There are many experts on this board that will
be able to evaluate the situation.

Please don't try this yourself. You could do more damage to your watch. Take it to a qualified watchmaker and have him do it. You'll be glad you did.

I'm of the mind that if you have to ask, don't do (unless you plan on doing countless hours of research and investing in the required tools that would set you back in excess of the cost of sending the watch in for repairs).

Or else...

Gentlemen
A pic will allow the opportunity to scrutinize
the appropriateness of a trip to Rolex.

FYI--You got a very expensive watch for free!...Spend whatever it takes to get it fixed right.
P.S. Unless you started the fight, I'd sue the guy for damages...

Do NOT try to open up your watch yourself, and be prepared to shell out a lot for repairs.

a Watchout? did i pose a threat to anyone on here, nor try to sell my watch. i mean thats a pretty dick post my friend. So you mean to tell me that my story is unlikely to happen to anyone with a Rolex? thats ridiculous! i have money, but i don't spend it on something that is not a hobby nor an interest of mine. I got the watch from a girlfriend, and it broke and i don't want to spend the 500+ dollars to fix it because i don't really care so much. If you told me to spend that money on my M3, i would sure as do that instead because i'm more of a car guy, than a watch guy. we all have our priorities

Chill grk,

WatchOut is one of our forums where we help members identify their watch and what might be wrong with it...

A picture can go a long way in us helping you on if you should go to an Authorized Dealer or a regular Watchmaker.

A watchmaker would unscrew the back, take the movement out, replace the hand and ask for 50 bucks..

An AD might just do it for nothing...

Welcome to TRF!

Why not just let an RSC (Rolex Service Centre) fix it??

I agree with Bo on this, I wouldn't make a mess of a 20K watch by tinkering with it myself.

I suggest you post a picture of the Daytona in its current state.

If you can't do this yourself, email it to me and I'll post it here.
