Trade my 368 for a 217...

The 217 has invaded my mind

Considering trading my 368(+$) for a 217...

similarities
47mm
1950 case
Dial layout
Destro
Domed crystal
Gold hands
Limited to 1000 units

Differences
8 day vs 3 day
In house mvmt vs. ETA based OPX1
Ti case vs. SS case
Tobacco dial vs. black dial
Luminor vs. Marina Militare printed on dial

(Not my pic)

I love everything about the 368, the 8 day movement, the case material, size, and design. I don't like the "8 Days" printed on the dial.
I love the history of the 217, and the Marina Militare on the dial...

My 368 may increase in value, in several years. The 217 has doubled in value in 6+ years and holding steady.

It would probably take my 368 plus the $$ I've saved for the new Exp2 to buy a 217...

Or maybe just keep saving and have both....

Anyone else compare these 2? What did you decide?

Thanks

I'd save to have both. Then you can decide at leisure which you prefer, if not both.

Other than the movement, I prefer everything about the 217 (SS, black dial, MM, no "8 Days").

Good luck with the choice!

same question

when i got called by my dealer about having a 368 in stock, i figured i should check out the 217 before i committed to it, so drove 500 mile round trip to check out the 217

I went with the 368, the 217 just felt cheap in comparison despite the fact it was going to cost more. The steel felt cheap compared to the titanium, the winding felt so ordinary compared to the 368. I love winding the 368 it's so smooth, if you flip it over you can wind it as normal and watch the power gauge go up. The 8 day reserve is great, but in reality longer then 8 days.

The tobacco dial and gold hands i think go better. The MM on the 217 is cool, but i have a 339 so had that base covered. I think the 368 looks like a destro 203.

Since i've got used to the 368 i've had another look at the 217, wouldn't swap it if it was offered, go and handle both and get whichever speaks to you

Thank you for your reply. This is exactly the type of response I was hoping for.

I'm glad that you mention the winding of the 368, being so smooth. It's one of my favorite aspects of the 368. Huge improvement in feel over my old 112.

And since you put it out there, I agree the 339 is a perfect compliment to my 368.

The 339 is now officially on my radar

Had the same issue.. I went with the 368 and have never looked back. The 217 is a great looking watch but there is no comparison when you have each one side by side in hand. 368 all day, all night!

Icon3 Save up for a 217, but don't let that 368 go!!!

As much as I respect the 217 and the significance of the MM moniker , I love the 8-day mvmt of my 233 so much that the idea of going from that to the 56 hours of the 6497 freaks me out. I have a 6498-2 and while it's PR looks attractive against my ~42hr 7750, 8-days just can't be beat.

Try to get both, but please don't part with your 368 - you will come to regret it ...sooner than later

217 would be my choice. Marina Militare and more importantly no text 8 Day! Had it been written in Italian like the 203 then it would have been a more difficult decision.

I am actually on a lookout for 368 but hoping to see if a trade might work ;) Might be left Rolex-less .. dont like that feeling either.

My thought .. Keep the 368.

Trade my 368 for a 217...

217 all day.

The biggest distinction people don't pick up are the longer and fatter gold hands of the 217/127 that adds to the allure.

Notice also that the seconds hand sits tighter to the 3 giving it a bigger face.

Steel pops more as welll... market has spoken.
