Just about ready for Michael Young...

I am ready to send off my President for a restoration via our friend Michael Young. Any advice for me on how to send it, or what I should ask of him besides just fixing the stretch? It recently had a polish, so I am not sure if I should ask him not to polish it again, but it may need it after he takes it apart. Figured I would check in before I started this process to see if anyone had some input. I will for sure update this thread when the finished product comes back. Thanks in advance.

Some pretty good stretch right there... Looking forward to seeing MY's work on it.

Doesn't look like it needs a polish to me

Looks good to me, regarding the polish.

Michael does some incredible work! Can't wait to see the finished product.

I've seen Michael Young's work on SS bracelets but never on gold bracelets. Does anyone have any before & after shots of his work on gold bracelets.

I don't think I would polish it again-looks good from what I can see. Despite the stretch, that is one great looking Day-Date. Can't wait to see how the repair goes. I really can't be of much help in regards to sending it off although I would talk to Mr.Young a few times where I was comfortable and when it's time to send package it well and get it insured. If the watch hasn't been serviced in awhile, I'd ask him if he offers that as well and kill two birds with one stone.

I have heard back from MY. Cost for this service is $1100usd. Is it better to send US post office or UPS/FedEx? I will get this in the mail after the holiday weekend.

Sending overseas I'd use FedEx for tracking purposes. USPS Registered Mail does not accept responsibility once it's in the hands of a foreign post.

It looks like it goes from about 6 1/4" to about 5 5/8". MY said anything more than a 1/2" difference and it was time. Name: ImageUploadedByTapatalk1361117783.506356.jpg

That is a lot. My DD is 29 years old and never been to MY, or anywhere else, to have the bracelet fixed, but I would say that the stretch on mine is about 50% of that. Nevertheless, I want to have the MY treatment in the next 12 months.
I really want to see it when its tightened up. Please post pictures of yours when you get it back.

Seems that MY prefers to receive packages at his PO Box. I need to send through US mail, and the post office is closed today!

I sent my 1957 riveted Oyster bracelet to Michael last week via USPS priority mail and he received it with no problems. Michael has provided great communication with me answering my initial questions via email and notifying that it arrived safely. As previously mentioned, USPS can't be tracked once it hits the foreign mail service so I basically trusted it would make it. I look forward to receiving it back in a couple weeks to put back onto my 1963 Oyster Date.

With your more expensive gold band, I would probably insure it and use a carrier who provides tracking for that extra piece of mind.

My dad's bracelet was in similar shape after being worn daily for 24 years. I didn't take a before pic but here is what it will look like when you get it back from MY. He did ours about a year ago.

Almost like new with 95% of the stretch gone.

Also, it seems that it is about 1/3 of the price to ship through the US post office vs Fedex or UPS.

Just out of curiosity, have you checked out Michael Young's thread? It was interesting and he mentions the difference in doing the Presidents Bracelets.

Just got back from the post office and it was incredibly difficult to get this thing shipped. They couldn't send it this way or that way for a multitude of reasons. In the end it is going to take longer than I expected to get there and I couldn't insure it for the amount that I wanted to. The whole transaction took about 45 minutes. Big surprise the US post office is just about done.
