Mechanical Swiss Tool Watch <$1K?
I goofed on my post and don't know how to edit it. My budget for such a beast is a grand, not two. I think that eliminates Omega for the most part. I'm thinking diver-style as opposed to chrono, but I love chronos. Just not sure what 7750's are under a grand besides Hamilton?

Longines Hydroconquest is about $1200, but you may be able to get a discount. Used ones are very cheap.

Most likely, any New mechanical watch you get for under $1k will have an average ETA movement under the hood. Therefore, I would suggest finding a watch that has something special happening on the outside (screw down case back and crown, solid end links, secure clasp, ect...) Ashford.com is a great place to do some research because you can specify your search.
The Hydroquest is an excellent choice. I would also look into Technomarine and Swiss Army. Here's a link to one I like (sans the red strap)...http://www.ashford.com/watches/victo..._cat5001&so=47 |

I'd recommend checking out Steinhart.
Great quality for the price. They do make a lot of "homage watches" but if you want a tool type watch that is more original looking perhaps take a look at the Triton line or Ocean 2. http://www.steinhartwatches.de/en/OCEAN-two,532.html http://www.steinhartwatches.de/en/TRITON-30ATM,309.html If you want a chrono - should come in right around $1K http://www.steinhartwatches.de/en/Na...ition,665.html I also second Longines - can find great deals pre-owned and a very good quality watch. Can also find good deals on pre-owned Oris watches. They have some nice divers as well. |

What about a used Omega from the 1970s. A Seamaster Cosmic fits your criteria.

Little over $1k, but I've had good luck with Oris in the past. You can pick up one of their divers pretty close to $1k, and they're pretty highly regarded as great bang for the buck. Further down the price range, I too would vote for Steinhart.
Good luck in the hunt. |

Well it's not swiss but the Seiko Scuba 200m diver watches (SKX007) are very hard to beat under 1k.

Deep Blue sells a lot of their models with a choice of ETA, Japanese quartz and Japanese automatic movements, but they are mostly all around your price point. They have very modern styling with many of their models being functional divers.
