Icon20 repair pricing question

I just registered to this site as I experienced some "sticker shock" at a local jeweler when I went in for an extimate to repair my 15 y/o Rolex Sky King. The watch has never needed servicing, but recentlyI noticed that the auto wind was not working quite so well as when new. I could wear the watch for a day, but overnight it would stop, whereas when it was new it seemed never to stop (as long as I wore it regularly).

The jeweler quoted me a price to overhaul the watch, and additionally said I would need a new auto axle (rotor axle?).

Can anyone give me an idea what a fair price for the overhaul and auto axle would be. I realize that a quality product will require quality care, but I just want to get some idea as to average repair/overhaul pricing.

Thanks,

Full service, anywhere from $400 - $600 plus parts.

Ive had one full service done. It was in 2010 and cost right at $600 for a SS GMT2. That price included replacing a reverser, whatever that is.

The guys above are right $550- $600 service from RSC, but an independent might be a little cheaper. There are several good ones on this forum!

Indie watchmakers are less costly that RSC, but doubt you'd see an overhaul below $400 + broken parts.

Thank you all for the information. Several of you mentioned using Riki for servicing. I will search this site for a way to contact Riki, but do any of you have the contact information for Riki?

Thanks,

I found Rik's contact info and web site for Time Care, and just got off the phone with him. He seems like a decent person and gave me a quote for an overhaul and replacement of the auto axle that was better than the local jeweler I had taken my Sky King to yesterday. I'd be curious to hear of anyone's experience with Rik.

Thanks,

Well don't know what you mean by a Sky-king, what your watch is will be clearly stated on the dial. And Rikki can be trusted with any genuine Rolex watch he does excellent work.

Thanks,
If you did a search for Rikki there are many, many posts stating their experience with him. You keep saying sky king, you might want to check your dial.
