BNIB…8 years old

On a trip recently i found an AD in a "hidden spot". Long story short, they are losing their status and have a D serial Turn-o-graph. However, they want brand new prices (current run of Turn-o-s, not the old model # that this is).

A good friend is interested, but he is concerned as it's 8 years old already, and while new "science" has produced great lubricants and blah blah blah. Anyways, he's worried it would need a service right off the bat. He won't pay what they are asking (plan is to walk in with a stack of cash and see if they bite), but he still has his concerns. I don't have the picture of the watch (and paperwork) in front of me, but I found a few things interesting. It mentioned it being Rose Gold (by model #), but it sure looked Yellow to me. Also, the "paperwork" info had it as "Gold" and not an X next to the Gold/Stainless option.

Just for chuckle's sake, they also had a few M serial Ex2s. Was a good discussion with the fellow behind the counter, but I let him run off at the mouth a little before I stopped him on some of his "stories", and informed him I wasn't the average customer (which I thank you people here for the education).

Yup.

For the money I don't see it worth it. Just weird to see this from an AD (then again, it could explain why they are losing their status).

They're losing their AD status for a reason. Buyer beware.

D serials were first seen around April 2005 right into May 2006 and many serials overlap longer could 2-3 years longer. Now the TOG is not one of Rolex fastest sellers so the when the case was stamped do not always apply when any watch was made.Fact the new TOG for the Japanese market limited to 300 watches released this year were all DXXXXXX and FXXXXXX serials. And no Internet chart can tell you exactly when any Rolex watch was made, only a approx date when a case/clasp was stamped nothing more. And all Internet charts are based on information passed around the various forum when a serial was seen at a AD.Nothing has ever been released by Rolex themselves all Internet charts are based on pure information passed and supposition and can only be really applied to the fast selling watches like say subs gmt etc.

I would ask for a discount and if the price was good, I would grab it. If not, I would walk away.

Some people prefer the rehaut engraving. I never see it unless I'm looking for it specifically.

The first three AD's I visited told me no discount and one looked at me like I was a piece of **** just for even asking. I persevered and got it. This guy now has me for life. When I'm buying Patek in a few years I'll go to him. Some AD's think they can act this way but I would go grey before paying full RRP on a Rolex.

This guy is clearly losing his marbles. He still has a D serial in 2013 and expects you to pay full price for it ? With that attitude he'll still have it in 2020.

I bought my Turn-O-Graph 116264 seven years ago. I got 15% off from a US AD, and paid $4700. (This is from memory...I could go look at the receipt in the file folder!). I am getting ready to get it serviced, based on the thinking that the lubricants aren't made to last forever. It hasn't changed timekeeping at all. I don't think you can look for changes as an indication that it needs a service. By the time that happens, you will possibly be replacing parts in the 3135 movement.

My watch was valued at $7000 by the Dallas RSC, when I took it in for an estimate on a service. The D series Turn-O-Graphs are selling for around $5000, but only if they have a recent service. If that is market price, then that's what you should pay at the AD.
