Full service. $220.
I was quoted a "full service" for a 1986 DJ at $220. He said people come from "all over" to save vs. RSC. I got a bad vibe from him (after asking a few questions, his demeanor and the general condition of the shop), and left.
So how much is a routine service at an indy? Might be easier to just go through RSC rather than deal with this nonsense. |

Send it to Ridley or Rikki. They'll shoot you it straight. Then decide if you want them or RSC.

Ridley, Rikki, or Dalton. Dalton services my GMT and was extremely reasonable, and very accurate as far as regulation. My GMT is running +/- 0.

Um...well there's one big problem: it's got an a/m dial so the TRF indys won't touch it (per another thread).

Id say Bob Ridley. He will do a much better job than a RSC will do.

Well RSC wont touch it either unless you want to restore it. Rsc costs ~ 600

Good certified watchmakers who do the full service usually start at $400 and up. SO that guy may have been quoting a clean and oil with no replacements. Then he might hit you with additional charges for "worn out" parts like tube, crown, etc. And those might be at some inflated value...
When the hair on the back of your neck stands up, then time to look elsewhere...

I recommend you give some a call .. Nesbit's Fine Watch Service in Seattle comes to mind.. They are an Omega Service Center, but also service Rolex and other high end brands.. Like buying a seller, you should also buy a proper shop. Some will low-ball the service but only partially disassemble and only sonic clean the assemblies before putting it back together without replacing any of the worn parts - and there are always worn parts...

Rikki - first choice.
Bob Ridley - For vintage requiring extensive work or any with huge gouges. Just my opinion.

Hey, I'm from the Albany, NY area and never knew about this guy??? I always use Richard at Harold Finkle on Central Ave. I'll have to check this guy out but the watchmaster at Harold Finkle will ONLY use Rolex parts when repairing a Rolex and I found that all of the other watchmasters would repair for less but would not use Rolex parts. I want all authentic parts. Thanks for the heads up. |
