My first post, and first Rolex (all today)
First, many thanks to all of the knowledgeable and kind posters on the site. While I haven't posted yet, I have been reading regularly as I prepared to jump in to the Rolex pool. After reading countless posts about Subs of every stripe and vintage, trusted dealers and the respective qualities of this dial, that bezel and the other bracelet, I finally leaped in a big way.
Today, my 2001 K serial gold bracelet, champagne Serti dial sub arrived from Bob's Watches. It has its papers, and the local AD kindly matched everything up. Leaving aside the questions some (I among them) had about the gold and the champagne on a Sub, I liked the way it looked in the pictures and on the wrist of an acquaintance enough to take the plunge. I figured if I didn't like it, there wre severl other options. It was pretty much a sealed deal when I saw it, but having worn it today with a business suit and then with jeans and a sweater, its impressively versatile allthe way around. It is also a stunningly beautiful hunk of heavy metal and horological engineering. I'm in DC, our only snowstorm of the past three years has just begun, we are likely to be closed tomorrow and I will probably spend some idle time ogling this thing with naked eyes and a loupe. For those who have not worked with Bob's, they were straight, friendly, helpful, communicative and a pleasure to work with. The watch is in mint condition and arrived perfectly packaged, by Fedex next day. Their prices are a bit higher than some of the others I found, but they had what I wanted in the right condition. And anybody contemplating the champagne Serti should give it a close look. Yeah, it is blingy but utterly tasteful. The sapphires and diamonds are muted, and the satiny gold, the shiny inner link sections, the gems and the color of the dial play beautifully together. Without further ado, here is a photo, courtesy of the iPad. Not the best, but it will give an idea. |

Thanks, all. I am going to try a few more shots with better lighting, as well as one the wrist. The blue on the bezel is gorgeous, and neither that nor the beauty of th gold came through above due to the harsh light in the room.

Thanks all. I have to say that I now know why Rolex ownership is a rather...addictive...experience. :-) Seriously, people here are just tremendously welcoming and helpful. I credit this first and successful purchase to the wise advice I picked up here. I'm going to make a contribution to the site.

Thanks! So do I. It has incredible character, and just looks so much better as time passes than when I got it, and I looked awfully nice then. I can't believe I'm saying this, but it looks more striking with the blue bezel and gold bracelet than does the blue face. The blue. in my opin

Hit send too quickly. I think the blue dial looks better with the blue bezel and either a white gold or stainless band.

I noticed that your white balance was a bit off so I took the liberty of doing a quick correction of your photo. I don't know how close it is to the real thing but I tried.
