What, exactly, is my problem?
I decided that I needed a new "knock around" watch, and stopped off at lunch to look at a Citizen. It's nice enough, 5 year warranty, Eco-drive means that it runs off of light, no battery required, and it was on sale! $250 now only $225. What a bargain. I'm not in love with it, but it was nice enough. I'll see how well I can do on eBay though before I commit.
So, as I'm at the mall anyway, I wander over to a slightly more upscale jeweler, and look at the new Yachtsman. Oh yeah baby, now we're talking! That is sweet. I initially went for the midsize, but the large (40mm) really feels a lot better to me. It must be all those years of wearing Brietlings that has skewed my perspective. $12,350. Ouch. Here I am wondering if I should spend $200 or not on that Citizen, but I'm also debating between the $10K mid-size and the $12K full size. They all do the same thing - tell time. Why am I even looking? Who the heck needs two Rolex watches? And why do I keep thinking that I deserve it? I even briefly considered selling my sub to partially finance the YM. Oye!

I don't know. I guess the same reason of why do I need eight Rolex's and I'm still looking for more.
Keep the Sub, sell the others to do your partial finance. Tim |

Watch consolidation doesnt work. Its a trap that only leads to spending more money later. honestly, your Omega quartz is your knock around watch. Its tough and worth $1k at best and is a quality product. That is what I used mine for. I cant wear junk watches for anything now. You really dont need another watch from what I can tell. If you can honestly afford it (not use a credit card) then go for it.

Ever since buying the Roley, the Breitling was just too blingy.

My knock around watch is a Seiko I got from Amazon for 79% off the RRP.
I enjoy my "knock around" time and if I were to have my Sub on I would not enjoy it due to worrying. If you are like me then go for the citizen. I would not trade a Sub for a YM but if you can afford both why the hell not ? If you need to convince yourself/your wife, just head over to the "watch collection in one picture" thread. That makes owning two watches look like the bare necessities. |

... Just sold all of my Hamiltons (3), Breitling (1) and Nixons (2).
I now have 2 subs (1 black, 1 2-tone ss/18K) and just purchased a Seiko SKX007 (Japenese model) as my "knock-around watch". Bought the watch on ebay. $220 + $100 For a Super Oyster II band. The watch looks spectacular for what it is... and it actually has one of the best automatic movements for the money anywhere. Have a look at the Seiko's.... |

Buy a vintage AirKing for knocking around. It's a Rolex and very durable.

I like the Sub as a knock around watch. Robust as hell.
