M series daytona?

Contemplating picking up a rolex daytona m series dated 2008 for 10k.guy is a dealer who I've dealt with many times before.question is do you think it will require service soon as its 5 years old.ive never kept a watch long enough to service them cause I usually buy new.but being 5 years old I don't want to have to send it in shortly after buying it.he said daytonas won't require service for 7+ years if even then.any input would be greatly appreciated.

Most of the advice I've read says that you only need to service it if it starts running poorly. I suppose if you let it go too long you could require a more substantial service cost, but I'm sure 7 or even 10 years wouldn't be a problem unless it's exposed to very harsh environments.

And that, really, is the only downside to buying used. You just don't know where it's been.

Buy it, wear it for a year or two, have it serviced, sell it to me.

Ya I only keep watches for a year or two anyways.justwould be aggravated if I bought it and it starte to screw up and I had to send it away for 6 weeks.i hear people all the time say they haven't had there watch serviced ever or in 10-15 years.

No such thing as a series its a M serial Rolex have never made a series of any watch.And by the case serial we can get a approximation when the case was stamped.This does not always mean when the watch was made. Now M serials started to show up at the ADs from around 2007 well into 2008.So myself would not send it for service yet especially if it was keeping good accurate time.But it should be serviced in the next year or so, and for peace of mind perhaps a quick pressure check very soon that most high street watchmakers could perform just to check the seals are OK that's not expensive.

I didn't mean series I meant serial but he was emailing me m series so I just went with that.i appreciate the info.

Is the seller offering any warranty with the watch? Lots offer 1 yr warranty for peace of mind. I'd ask him, can't hurt.

No he doesn't offer warrantys ever.but I've never had a problem but that's also cause ive never boughten anything used from him except a 14060 that was only 6 monts old.il prob pass being as I found a couple random serial daytonas today dated 2011 and 2012 for 11k.prob go that route if I do.

You should definitely factor in a service cost into the overall watch price since you should be getting it serviced in the next year so. That could mean about $1k or more assuming you don't need anything except routine maintenance and testing. When you factor that into the cost of the watch to me it makes sense to buy new from an AD and get a two year warranty. But...that's my two cents and what I did when I recently picked up my new Daytona. There is not that much of a difference in price for a late model pre owned 116520 and a new one due to the 116520s retaining their value very very well in the market. Depending on the watch it makes sense to buy pre owned but for others others, like a late model 116520, not so much. Something to consider. .

10k is a little high if tax is involved, I wouldn't worry about the service, there are M serial number what's that are still new old stock at some dealers. Try and find another M for sale
here and show him the price difference if its lower, maybe he will knock off $500 bucks!! Tell him that since it has the older clasp you'll give him $9500 out the door!!

One thing worth bearing in mind is that the cost of servicing a Daytona is higher than other Rolexes. I believe a routine tuneup would be at least US$1,000 if not more at the official service center.
