Light on a very dark day

Very early this morning, we lost one of our favorite dogs to acute kidney disease. To us, this is the loss of a family member. While trying to deal with the grief, work, and various logistics, the doorbell rang. It was a package from Ponycar containing what is depicted in the first photo on the wrist of husband holding the son of the girl we lost. I had ordered it as a gift after he saw one on eBay and remarked on how wonderful it looked, and how he'd love to have one, except he didn't like the stick dial. A few days later, Ponycar posted one for sale with a gorgeous dial. As you can see, it fits him very well.

The doorbell rang again a few hours later, and the second photo is what arrived for me. It is my first Tudor. I think it looks pretty spiffy. A little bit of light on an otherwise awful day.

Really sorry for your loss and know the pain you're going through - had one of our cocker spaniels for 16 years before she passed. Lovely that you've got some offspring to remind you of the mother.

BTW the Tudor is great

Mikki, I'm glad to read you've been able to have a little bit of sunshine on your rainy day. My thoughts are with you and Wes during this difficult time, allow me to congratulate you on the watches and to wish you a lot of courage.

Thank you all. It's been a long, hard fight. We've had up to 10 dogs at once, the first from the pound. When I had him at the vet, I met a a Chinese Crested and fell in love with the breed. The office manager at the vet's (both of whom I'd known for years) knew people who bred Cresteds. So I got Chiana, the little girl in my sig line. Then I wanted a male, so we went to see puppies. I fell in love with two of them, Bushi and Calvin. Calvin was a beautiful sweet hairless. Bushi is a puff. Calvin was so wonderful and sweet that I wanted him to have kids. That's when I got Luppy, a beautiful blue eyed Crested. Before she was ready, despite her having a diaper on for her first heat, Calvin had his way. I had been told Cresteds usually only had one or two. Luppy had 5.

Soon afterwards, Calvin needed surgery on two luxated patella. The surgery started a horrible cascade of horrible arthritis that twisted his limbs. He was still happy so we carried him around, and took care of him the best we could. He died suddenly of congestive heart failure, and I was crushed. Devestated. That dog went everywhere with us. Then, Luppy developed Cushings disease. We started balancing her meds, which took many months. We finally balanced the meds, and less than a month later, she started vomiting. She was diagnosed with kidney disease, flushed out, and she started getting better. We were hopeful. Then last night, she suddenly got really bad, and we knew it was time.

Yeah, we're crushed. Both Calvin and Luppy were very, very special. Of the 5 pups, one is hairless; Hobbes. 4 are puffs, 1 boy and 3 girls. One of the girls went to live with friends, and nobody wanted to take the others. We'd already said we were keeping Hobbes. This whole litter was genetically messed up. They are 3x the size of normal Cresteds. One is epileptic. Hobbes had glaucoma and is now blind. Kelsey is emotionally messed up (freaking out during thunderstorms). Xander seems normal. Calvin's brother Bushi is psycho. Chiana has a heart condition. Jepp, the pound doggie is fine, just getting old. Every time I think I've run out of tears, something else comes up with them.

That was just the intro to vintage watch questions...

1) How long does the battery in an Oysterquartz normally last?
2) The Tudor was billed as 1950s. Does that look right? It seems a bit strange to have the front and back doors with a watch that "new."
3) Anyone have any experience with buying movements to fit a certain vintage case?

Thanks

So that's the sad saga.

Tudor looks 50s to uneducated me, unless it is 40s with an earlier redial. Genetics makes fools of us all. Very sorry to hear about your loss -heartbreaking! My brother told me that when they were first introduced to the US, they were marketed as "Chinese Edible Dogs." Since they were bred by Chinese sailors, they needed to have a great personality to get along with everyone aboard ship, needed to be pretty decent at catching rats, and needed to taste ok in case the sailboat got stuck in becalmed waters.

Sorry for your loss!

Your Oysterquartz looks exactly like one I recently sold. They are great watches and have to go up in value at some point. You could probably get three years out of a battery but be proactive in changing it to avoid having one leak. I would suggest doing it every two years. Rolex will change them for free but by the time you send it insured its cheaper to have a local person do it. My Rolex certified watchmaker charged me $25.

Sharp watch, enjoy it.
