Need figure out which Rolex to part with
Okay, bear with me. I currently have three Rolexes: a 16700 Pepsi GMT, a 16600 Sea Dweller, and 16610 Submariner Date. I would like to add a s/s Daytona 116520. However, I need to sell either the Sub or the GMT or both. They are both serviced within the last year or so and look great. The Sub is easier to part with because it looks a lot like the Sea Dweller, which I prefer. Figuring out what to do with the GMT is harder. In a perfect world, I would have the GMT, SD, and a Daytona but Daytonas are not cheap and if I sold both the GMT and the Sub, I'm essentially even money into a used Daytona.
I am not asking for a crystal ball on my feelings but what I'm asking is that you, as true aficionados, have a better idea of how special a Pepsi 16700 is and whether or not that's a bad move to part with a great one that I've had for 8 years. Also, if I hold off on getting a Daytona so that I don't have to part with the GMT, are those only going to get more expensive? They don't seem all that hard to find but prices do vary wildly. Thanks in advance. |

IMO, if you need to flip, flip the 16610 only and keep the 16700 & 16600, since, one, you yourself said you prefer your SD to the sub date, and, two, the latter two will be (relatively speaking) harder to replace down the line.
pepsi + SD + daytona is a top trio. |

Sub Date should go (
SD and Pepsi are keepers, b/c they are slightly different that each other. So all 3 of your watches would diverse. GMT Date w/ Cyclops SD Date w/o cyclops Daytona no date |

Agree with others here - flip the Sub date. I'd hang onto the GMT and SD.

Okay, that's along the lines of what I figured. This is pretty great input. And the thing is, I have a really, really nice 16700 so replacing it down the road would be pretty difficult (relatively) and probably cost me more than I'll gain now.
I guess I will probably do a partial trade for the Sub and do the rest in cash for the Daytona. If I have to wait, I can wait. Thanks for the input guys. That's much appreciated. |

Pretty nice problem to have! Personally, I would keep the GMT and the (iconic) Sub. I have a Sub now and am looking for a coke or pepsi GMT. Whatever you decide, you will still have 2 or 3 great watches. Good luck choosing!

The luster of the Daytona has fallen off for me. I'd keep the GMT and SD whatever you do though.

Sell/trade the Sub. I've worn an SD for 13yrs and prefer it to the sub. GMT is a classic and as you and others have mentioned...a classic.

SD rules, if you must sell the 16610 can go imho.

Feel the same way, probably Sub has to go. Daytona is going to be a nice addition to your collection. Maybe get 1680 later on.

I have owned all three at some point (well, the GMT was a different flavor). I agree with most: sell the Sub. But I wouldn't be too quick to add the Daytona.
Disclaimer: Your Mileage May Differ. That said, when I could finally afford a Daytona, I couldn't read the subdials, missed the date, and just didn't "bond" with it. If you like chronos, maybe Audemars Piguet Royal Oak with the F. Piguet caliber 1185 movement? Heck of a machine, even though I hold the Rolex 4130 in (slightly) higher regard. Just a thought... |

Maybe think of a private sale for the Sub . Of course this only applies If you can make more $ selling privately . If the trade-in is only a couple hundred less , trade it (less headaches). But if its worth it , it might get you closer to your goal quicker . + if you don't get what you want , trade it .

Flip the Sub for the reasons mentioned, including your own stated preference for the SD. Essentially the SD IS a date Submariner, just with a higher WR rating and no cyclops.
Now, if you were asking what I would do, it would be either flip the SD or do nothing. I'm not big on chronos so the Daytona doesn't sing to me, but I'd rather have a Daytona than an SD. The Sea Dweller is a great watch and all, but it's just too thick for my liking. But you didn't ask that so flip the Sub.

I do like hearing people's opinions on the downsides of the various watches, including the Daytona. It helps me to figure out the best plan of action. I have always loved chronos though. I appreciate all of the input so far. Thank you. |

But if I was in your position, going by what you've told us, I'd still flip the Sub. The way I'd look at it is I essentially have 2 Subs and I definitely like one of them (the SD) better. Can't tell you whether to sell the Pepsi too, but if it was me I wouldn't. It's my favorite out of the three. Even without my preference for the Pepsi, I wouldn't want to go from three watches down to two especially when it means losing the Pepsi. I'd have to REALLY want the Daytona to do that. REALLY want it badly.

For the most part, everything that everyone has said makes a lot of sense to me.
I think that selling the Pepsi is not in the cards, at least right now. I like the Daytona a lot and will get one but not at the expense of the Pepsi. I suppose I will just have to wait until I can find one at a good price. I will most likely have to sell the Sub privately to close the gap as much as possible to the Daytona. |

I had sold my GMT and Seadweller. Missed them so much I had to purchase again. Sub and really never looked back as I a Seadweller. As others have said, sell the Sub.

I would keep the SD and move the other two making room for the Daytona. To me the Sub, SD and GMT share a similar appearance and I prefer more variety which the Daytona would give you.

I think you are better off keeping the GMT and the SD.
