If a new Daytona is coming what happens to the old?
What do you guys think would happen (value/demand wise) to the 116520 if and when Rolex rolls out the 42 or 43mm Daytona with date on it?

This is exactly why I don't want to drop thousands on the daytona now. I heard rumors that the new GMT-II was coming out so I waited about 2 years to purchase my first rollie which happends to be the SS GMT-IIc. So now I can enjoy my GMT-IIc for many years without worrying about a redesign. That's why honda or Audi owners are at a disadvantage. You purchase a car that is redesigned pratically every 3 years. With a BMW, many models are every 6-7 years, granted alittle touchup on the exterior here and there & the engines are upgraded, but nothing too dramatic on the overall design for that time period.

The value could double overnight. It's a perfect size as it is. Date would be nice though and would then be a complete and perfect watch. Is there talk of the above happening for real?

I don't know about the value but I didn't buy mine to flip it so I could care less. Personally, although I have a 7 and 1/2 wrist, I don't care for anything larger than 40 MM. I was watching an Invicta shopping show the other day and some of the massive designs they have are just ludicrous. Strictly a fashion statement and you know how long those last. JMO.

I think that the old will allways sell. If rolex stops producing the old daytona then the value will definetely go up. Personally i don't want rolex to ruin the beauty of the daytona

Tell the true, I don't like the look of current Daytona because of off center of 3 and 9 o'clock dail. I like the older look. Especially, the one with exotic dial. Those are so value this day. Not all new model are better than the old. Just like, new GMT IIc. I prefer my old bezel with black and red also a red 24 hr hand. But, I do like triple lock crown on the new one. For sure, I will never sell my watch. It will belong to my kid when they grown up. If Rolex come out with new model Daytona. That will be great, I will have a reason to buy more if I like it.
BTW, I just called my AD lady and asked her about new model of Daytona. She has no ideal of new model at all. Maybe, she just like one of us. We just guest. |

The Daytona has already been updated with the new clasp and the parachrom hairspring. I expect they'd give the Submariner and the Explorer the same treatment before they'd revisit the Daytona again.

The prices should shoot through the roof. If they change the watch and the previous model was never well supplied. It means that the limited supply will become even more scarce.

Think about it:
ALL discontinued Rolex watches have increased in value. It is a natural consequence of them not being manufactured anymore. As soon as a Rolex model is no longer produced, people want it even more, and not being able to buy it makes the price jump up.

I have the SS GMT II with the olod bezel and I love it. 120 clicks instead of 24, yea I'm down with that.
Buy what you like. If it goes up in value, good for you. But be happy with the watch and not anything subjective. My problem is that I have three nice watches and it is getting harder to find another one for the "family." |

I think rolex will upgrade daytona on year 2012 to celebrate 50 anniversary of daytona. By the way is year 2012 correct?

IFa very small word its a bit like saying how long is a piece of string. Its very strange take the vintage Daytona, very simple ETA Valjoux 72 series movement. At the time very very poor sellers, and quite a few often poo poo ETA movements. So I must jump to the conclusion that perhaps its all down to owning something that is now perhaps high priced.

Either way, it will still go up in price. The demand will still be there.

i don't know about you guys, but i buy my watches because i love the way they look, not to have the most recent model.
i love my ss daytona and wouldn't even be interested in a >42 redesigned version. i think the flava flav size watch is a fad that won't be around forever. someday it will be dated like the ultra thin movado of the 80's. not that there's anything wrong with those watches or that look. it's just that watches like that are dated whereas a rolex is timeless (no pun intended) and has always looked classic because of their styling. i plan to get the new anniversary sub with the ceramic bezel. if that is a larger case size i'll still get it as long as it's not bigger than 42. i'll also get 116509 as long as they don't play around with the size of that one either. |
