I agree with the WS most of the time. Rubber, especially aftermarket, is sloppy in my opinion. Have to agree on the nato straps too. Once the hipster crowd found them, I ditched mine.

I like the Watch Snob and in this case I do think that he's on target with his observations.

This, however, should not be construed as a blanket condemnation of rubber or nylon straps on Rolex watches or any other brands.

I personally don't much care for any kind of strap and that's why I almost always wear a watch with a bracelet. I actually own one watch that has a nylon strap and another that has a leather strap and I do occasionally wear them.

I don't spend much time worrying about the method others use to affix timepieces to their wrists, but then, I'm not paid to be the Watch Snob.

I would love an Aquanaut on Rubber. I think it looks great. The watch head on a sport strap is cool. No need to over damage the steel band. Also gives a different feel.

Seems like back in the 70's there was the option, it was when I first starting shopping for a Rolex 73 or 74. May have been offered just by the AD I was shopping. At the time I was looking at the Sub, the GMT and the Exp II.
Rubber was offered only on the Sub, FYI I ended up buying a GMT but not until 1978. That first one cost my wife $550.

That's my take on it too. I find the articles quite amusing. I think the key word here is satire.
