The Estoril Casino. Popov placed an enormous bet, the size of which scared off a rival player. Fleming was reported to have witnessed the event...

At least that's what I read somewhere...

Correct?

Correct.

It was at the Palacio Hotel where Popov stayed to meet up with Abwehr and where Fleming was assigned to keep an eye on Popov.

If I remember correct it was early 1941 just before Popov flew to the US to warn the Americans about the upcoming Pearl Harbor attack that they ignored.

It's in south Bačka, Vojvodina now Serbia but was part of Austria-Hungary in 1912 when Popov was born there.

It's all in Popov's book Spy, Counterspy that was published in 1974 (I read it in 76) that by the way the US tried to stop because of the embarassing incident with J.Edgar Hoover who in my eyes (and most of the world) is responsible for Pearl Harbor.
