Help on a scratch...

Hey,
Here's a shot of my GMTII C; notice the number 4. I've got a couple of small scratches. Not sure if I'd want to do anything about it now, but if I did what are the options and costs? I'm interested to know if anyone else has had a ceramic bezel repaired or if it needs to be replaced.

Thanks in advance. Here's the pic.

First I would look closely enough to see if it is contaminate that can be removed or if the platinum PVD has actually chipped..

Don't know if there is a repair.. replacement is about 700 bucks..

Looks like contaminate to me....are you sure those are scratches? Or perhaps the ceramic has chipped off?

Honestly, this is why I don't think I would ever want a ceramic... That is a lot of cash to have to fork out for a part that is pretty much guaranteed to get visually messed up if the watch is worn often.

I'm going to chalk this up to character building...on my part...not the watch. Maybe in a few years when Rolex figures out the ceramic Pepsi, I'll have a built in excuse to get a new insert.

I kind of like it. It makes your watch individual and unique.

Yet another reason I don't care for the "Cs"

I thought ceramic was impervious to such things?

Check to see if this might be considered a manufacturing defect. Looks like the PVD platinum has come off as others have pointed out. I would not expect this to happen.

It's certainly worth a trip to the AD to see what they have to say.

Who knows, they might surprise you and take care of it...

that's a great idea - maybe this Basel 2013 we will get a ceramic Pepsi?
hopefully sooner than later!

I have repaired a scratched ceramic bezel however it was not on the coated number. First you need a loupe to inspect it. I might also take a plastic toothpick and see if it is debree of some sort. If it is not I would head to an art supply store and buy a a paint pen that matches the numbers and just touch it up myself. Good luck.

If you decide to leave it, simply look at it as a one of a kind piece and that it adds character and a story to the watch.

May I ask how deep the scratches are, what did you use and how did you do it?

Reason I ask is that under the loupe my GMT II bezel shows tiny hairline scratches and I want to do something about it. No big deal if it can't be done but I want to try if it is doable.

Thanks in advance!

Tools and Swissaholics were right; it was some contaminate. It wouldn't budge with a optical grade cleaning cloth, but a plastic toothpick did the job. Thank you TRF members.

So it's probably too late for me to suggest using a Sharpie, isn't it?
