New 50th Anniversary Daytona

I have to admit, this one has me puzzled..

I was puzzled back in the early 2000's when they came out with a solid gold GMT and implied that it too was an "anniversary" edition.. Almost nobody cared..

I feel this one will have the same lack of fanfare and following.. Perhaps Rolex thought it a mistake when they came out with an "anniversary" Sub model for the masses and it simply became another Sub.. An argument could be made for both this 2013 Daytona and the 2005 GMT as "THE" anniversary models and something unique and commanding the title..

I mean really though.. an Icon in the watch world and they come out with a mega-buck platinum anniversary model Daytona that almost nobody can afford or will buy.. It just screams out a lack of touch by Rolex with their loyalty base.

Now, don't get me wrong.. I think that this watch is absolutely gorgeous.. In the looks department they hit this one out of the park.. Ice blue and chocolate, how could you go wrong.. those colors are simply meant to go together.. And they did it right.. not too flashy. The blue is dreamy and fresh, easy on the eyes.. a brown of deliciousness around it... I would grab one up in a minute - if it was in Stainless Steel..

I'll have to really think about this one before I drop the kind of change it will command at the counter.. But, it's a keeper if I ever do get one..

They will likely get around to SS of this type in a few years, though not with the ice blue is my thinking

Ice blue is reserved for their platinum watches. It is just insanely priced and like you said by making this the anniversary watch that 99% of us can't afford is really out of touch on Rolexes part.

I think this is an awesome 50th Anniversary watch for the Daytona. Of course we want a less expensive one to add to our collection, but the SS is not the majority of the Daytona line. Look at all the options available if you step up to gold.
I feel this is a very important model for Rolex with a name synonymous to racing and the 4130 movement is a masterpiece. Why not set the bar high to represent 50 years?
Im just glad to be in the Daytona club at some level.

It's not that I can't afford it, it's just I don't want to afford it.

Precious metal sports watches are not in my watch buying playbook.

I don't understand the brown at all. I think the dial looks like three turds floating in a toilet of blue water. And not in a good way.

I understand the blue dial because of the platinum. I had a platinum day date for a while, and the glacier blue is beautiful. Why couldn't they make it look like a 118206 or 218206 Daytona?

The Daytona is such an icon. I've owned several, including a porcelain floating cosmograph. I'm just baffled at this point. Just my $.02.

What a big missed opportunity for Rolex. Rolex's color selection has me scratching my head. I get the glacier blue dial is tied to platinum but the brown would have been better associated with RG or YG. In fact the blue on the SS YM2 has, until now, been associated with precious metal models so why now SS? The plat Daytona should have had the blue bezel.

I kind of like the color combo and my wife loves it!! The price however for a modern Rolex is a different story. Cheers,

The good news is that the SS release in another year (or 2?) with the white face and black ceramic bezel will be a winner.

I hope so but doubt it

They cannot keep the white dial with adding black registers and black bezel, as itll look like a cheap tag

If they do the black bezel and matching registers, the white may be replaced by silver to be aesthetically pleasing or another color/shade

The current SS daytona looks gorgeous from a distance because of the bezel and matching registers with depth to them added by recessed registers and the nice silver.

Im praying they dont blunder the SS like they did with this abomination

Like the ice blue dial but not sold on the brown. Going to be a crazy price.

Rolex completely missed an opportunity to create a 50th anniversary SS model since that IS the iconic Daytona. They didnt need to launch a platinum version on any particular year...last year, next year or even this year in addition to a SS model. There is only on 50th anniversary

The colour combo is right on the money, only the Daltonistic would fail to see it

Seriously, imo the colours do compliment, can't wait to see in the flesh

Agree....just baffling to me. This one doesn't appeal to me at all.

Agreed on the missed opportunity.

I can quickly come up with a handful of better options
That Rolex potentially left on the drawing board. I'd also
Argue that the color palate is mediocre at best.

I like the color combo. It's different, and it works. My guess it that this will look fantastic in the flesh, and will sell out. There's always going to be someone who will want that little extra measure of exclusivity. But I doubt they'll make too many of them.

The colors do work together.

Chocolate and light blue have been widely used in every facet of design, from graphic to fashion, and everything in between. I'll wait to see it in person before passing judgement, but I'm liking the aesthetics and personally hope the demand for this piece isn't high, so that I can acquire it at 40+% off MSRP...probably dreaming lol.

The color combo wasn't boring nor expected. I think Rolex will wait a couple of years to release a SS Daytona-c. The early adopters with deep pockets just might go ahead and buy this. Me, no.

Terrible colour combo. Blue is ok but with brown it is ugly IMHO. As others have stated the price is going to eliminate most people from owning one it is just out of their price range and will remain that way even when bought used in a 10 years.

I definitely couldn't afford it but...im not even a fan of the Daytona but for some reason I like this variation...I do agree that the brown was an odd choice but it works with that shade of blue...its sexy as hell...I think it will appeal to the female masses more so...
