Such a Submariner, a reference 1680, has been said to have been made for the Asian market in the 1970ies:

Some say that it never really existed in that format from the Rolex manufactury but that a Tudor Sub bezel and an aftermarket dial was added later on.

Any way you could post a photo? This is one of those references that has strong feelings on both sides. The watch posted by Bo was sold at auction a few years ago and caused quite a stir in the vintage community. Many feel it's a "marriage" watch with a dial from a TT sub and a bezel. as Bo says from a Tudor.
There are those that give it some validity as being offered at one time in the far east.

To my knowledge no example exists with contemporary upgrades.

I think I am safer ground denying a 2007 True Blue SS Sub than I was calling the YM Plat dial plated.

Compared to my 20 year old sea dweller, it looked pretty authentic to me....right down to the laser etched coronet.

Well, I post pics.

Of course he's joking.

Putting together an all SS blue Sub is easy to do, but it sure is not for purists.

The laser etched coronet was easily visible to the eye?

I think his "oops" was directed toward KJacques....meaning if the laser etching is visible to the naked eye, the watch could be a fake.

I bought it in 1987 at an AD.

It had tritium hands and dial.....when I had it serviced this year, I had the crystal, hands, and dial replaced.

The new crystal has the laser etched coronet.

yes, but on a replacement crystal your etching will have a s in the middle of the 0 in the rolex coronet. it how you tell a service dept crystal from the original.
