Such a Submariner, a reference 1680, has been said to have been made for the Asian market in the 1970ies:
Some say that it never really existed in that format from the Rolex manufactury but that a Tudor Sub bezel and an aftermarket dial was added later on.

I think his "oops" was directed toward KJacques....meaning if the laser etching is visible to the naked eye, the watch could be a fake.

yes, but on a replacement crystal your etching will have a s in the middle of the 0 in the rolex coronet. it how you tell a service dept crystal from the original.
