The Sapphire crystal is very hard. Just under diamond on the hardness scale.

But it is not scratch proof, only resistant.

If you bump it against a cinder block wall, it will scratch, if you smack it with diamond jewelry, it will scratch...

If your dog has been outside and small stone grit is imbedded in the dogs nails, it might scratch..

May be, if your dog has nail tip with diamond. Very sharp tungsten carbine or diamond can scratch the sapphire. Or sapphire it self can do damage to each other. Just like they said "It take diamond to cut diamond".

I don't think you should be asking if your dog can scratch the crystal, I think you should watch a few episodes of The Dog Whisperer on National Geographic, and get the dog to quit jumping up on you.

JJ's only kidding....I think.

On the subject.
Sapphire glass and diamonds are not scratch proof only scratch resistant.

a material can be scratched by any material of equal or greater hardness.. on the rockwell hardness scale, the Rolex crystal measures a hardness of 9MOH. that is just 1 level below diamond
