Tudor Black Bay
I am seriously considering buying a Black Bay. I've seen it in person and love the look and the feel of a quality time piece but just can't get over the fact that for a fairly expensive watch it uses an ETA movement. I know the ETA 2824 is a tried and true robust movement and all that but i guess its a psycological hurdle that I have. If it was close to the $2000-$2500 mark I would not hesitate. What are your thoughts? I would love to hear from someone who has owned it for a while.

i wouldnt mind... as long as i like the design... plus its easier and cheaper to maintain since ETA is all over the place.. and its accurate also..

jctrolex, I own one, and it was a bargain at $3800 Australian. It has a quality and style that screams rolex, and if you're after a classic diver style watch, there's no equivalent on the market.

I love tudor. And truly don't understand the obsession with an "in house" movement.
The watch look and feel are completely on par with rolex. Yet you get a crazy good deal because of the ETA movement. A movement that keeps time just as well. Seems like a no brainer to me.

Thank you all for your responses so far it is hitting 1000. My Ad's list is $3650 plus tax before negotiation. I don't like buying such an expensive item from eBay would love to find out which AD sells for $2800 because I don't think I can negotiate him down $800.

For me, the ETA movement didn't bother me. I had debated, and researched and decided on the BB. I loved the reviews, and pics I saw, and thought this was the one. Until I saw it in the flesh. When I did, I was sorta, meh. It just didn't grab me like I hoped it would.

+1 I already posted my answer on the other thread! No problem with ETA as far as I'm concerned. My most accurate watch in my meager collection sports an ETA movement.

It is my understanding that Rolex buys the ebuaches from ETA and then builds the movements to their own specifications.
I'm not an expert, but I think it's something of a stretch to refer to Tudor movements as ETA movements, as all the things that "make them tick" are Rolex made and installed. Perhaps, the more knowledgeable among us could clarify.

Please post a link, as I would love to see that auction. I did a little search and did not find it in active or sold listings.....Thanks. A Black Bay bracelet model for $2590 seems like an exceptional deal.

this link may also shed some light on the 2824 base vs the images of the tudor 2824 on their website (link courtesy eta sa) http://www.eta.ch/index.php?id=54&L=2 i don't see what much else tudor could do to it if its the swiss market 2824. the mods could probably write a book on this but i gave it a shot... |

At list price the watch is still worth every single penny. Tudors are an amazing value IMO.
