Rolex explorer 14270 or 16570?

I was wondering which model would be best for everyday wear (work, etc)? My work is very physical, I work in law enforcement, in sand and dirt, and can be subject to dings here and there. Would appreciate your insight!

Given that your work environment is quite physical, how about a G-Shock instead?

Both are equally tough, if you need a date go for the 16570, if you want more versitility go with the 14270 (or even 114270 for the SEL)

As stated, the date feature would be nice and the polished bezel of the Exp 1 is polished so it may show more wear. Plus the Exp II wears a little smaller than other 40mm and fits under the cuff nicely. The Exp II gets my vote.

16570 is my go-to watch when things get adventurous or physical.. Plus it has the added benefit of a 24 hr time format..

I would get an Explorer II, but for your line of work, a G Shock is likely the best.

16570 would be perfect.
Great watch, tough as nails and flys under the radar.

I worked 26 years as a cop on the streets and always put my good watch in my locker at the beginning of my shift and wore some type of G shock. No way am I going to ruin my good watch because of some dirtbag that I'm wresteling with. Just an old cops .02...
Who's going to pay for the repair of your watch when it gets damaged? The dirtbag? Your employer? You? I think that you know the answer to this one.

I like the 16570 better overall, but like the 14270 better for dressing up.

Insurance?

Maybe once for major damage...but not ongoing issues.

I would love to have either watch (but would probably go with the 40mm Explorer II) but I wouldnt wear it on duty. Ask yourself how many watches have been ripped off, how much gear has fallen off running through an alley or crawling through a tight space. When the adrenaline gets going things like your watch getting ripped off or the crystal getting shattered might go unnoticed until much later.
