Issue with my Rolex Submariner

I got a little issue with my Rolex. When I pull the crown out to set the time the second hand keeps moving. A local watchmaker said it should be an easy fix but didn't give me a price. Has anyone experienced this problem and what was the approximate cost for repair. Or should I even repair it, it still works great.
Watch is a 1977 Submariner 5512.

Yes, repair it. Easy fix. The crown doesn't click it when you pull it out, there's a probably lose position of the crown's stem, or it may have slipped. Estimate? My local watch repairer will probably do it for me for free.

The last service on my watch was in 1996, I guess it's due.

Yeah, been a while. It's always recommended to have a general check up every 5 - 10 years. :)

My rule is if nothings broken then just leave it but once something breaks service. Why not send it to rsc for a full service and repair so you can go another 17 years with no service

A full service starts at $695 from Rolex. I will probably take it to a local watchmaker.

Just want to make sure about the second hand, on a 5512 Submariner will the second hand stop moving when the crown is pulled out?

Yes, starting in the early '70s (double-check this) the 5512s should have a hacking movement, so the seconds hand should stop when the crown is pulled out all the way. My 3-mil. 5512 has a hacking movement.

It's possible that the movement has been replaced with a non-hacking version.. However, the hack feature can malfunction on hacking watches..

There is no reason to fix this until the next time you need a full service..

I drop my watch off at a reputable local watchmaker for service. He uses Rolex parts and the price is reasonable compared to Rolex. Should have it back in 3-4 weeks.
